यह मंदिर पुणे नासिक राजमार्ग पर पूणे से करीब 90 किलोमीटर दूर और जुन्नार जिले से करीब 7 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर लेण्याद्री की पहाड़ी में स्थित है। गिरिजात्मज अष्टविनायक मंदिर (Girijatmaj Ashtavinayak Temple) में एकमात्र गणपति हैं जो पहाड़ों में एक गुफा में हैं।

गिरिजात्मज के जन्म की कहानी

लेण्याद्री गणेश जन्म के बारे में विभिन्न किंवदंतियां बताई जाती हैं,जिन्हें गिरिजात्मज के रूप में सम्मानित किया जाता है। 'गिरिजा' का अर्थ है पार्वती 'आत्मज' का अर्थ है पुत्र। पार्वती जी ने लेण्याद्री के पहाड़ों में तपस्या की, ताकि उन्हें एक पुत्र हो सके। उन्होंने मन को एकाग्र करने के लिए मिट्टी की मूर्ति बनाई और उसकी विशेष रूप से सेवा की।कहा जाता है कि पार्वती की भक्ति की सफलता के बाद श्री गजानंद भाद्रपद शुद्ध चतुर्थी को प्रकट हुए, वे ही गिरिजात्मज हैं।

लेण्याद्री गांव कुकडी नदी के तट पर स्थित है। लेण्याद्री के पास इस पहाड़ी में मंदिर के पूर्व और पश्चिम में 28 बौद्ध  गुफाएं हैं। सातवीं गुफा में गिरिजात्मज का मंदिर है, जहां भगवान गणेश की एक पत्थर की मूर्ति है। इस गुफा को गणेश गुफा भी कहते हैं। मंदिर तक पहुंचने के लिए करीब 300 सीढ़ियां चढ़नी होती है। मंदिर की वास्तुकला में कोई मेहराब, मंडप,या चोंटिया नहीं है।यह गुफा 51 फीट चौड़ा और 57 फीट लंबा है,लेकिन इसमें कहीं भी स्तंभ का सहारा नहीं है। मंदिर के पास ही पानी की 4 टंकियां  हैं, और उनमें साल भर पानी रहता है।इस मंदिर की विशेषता यह है कि यह पूरा मंदिर एक ही बड़े पत्थर से बना है।

इस गुफा को इस तरह से बनाया गया है कि जब तक आसमान में सूरज रहेगा तब तक रोशनी आती रहेगी।गुफा में कोई प्रकाश बल्ब नहीं है। इस गुफा का निर्माण किसने और कब करवाया इसका कोई रिकॉर्ड नहीं है।

सामारोह

देवजन्म कीर्तन समारोह गणेशोत्सव के दौरान इस स्थान पर मनाए जाने वाला एक विशेष त्यौहार है। गणेश स्थापना के दिन सुबह 10:00 बजे देव जन्म का कीर्तन किया जाता है। इस कीर्तन के लिए भक्त हमेशा मौजूद रहते हैं। यह हिल स्टेशन गोले गांव ग्राम पंचायत की सीमा के भीतर आता है। कीर्तन के बाद भोजन प्रसाद का वितरण किया जाता है। गणेशोत्सव में मंदिर के गर्भ गृह में फूलों की आकर्षक सजावट की जाती है। इस दौरान क्षेत्र से हजारों की संख्या में श्रद्धालु दर्शन के लिए मंदिर आते हैं।

Girijatmaj Ashtavinayak Temple

This temple is situated in the hill of Lenyadri, about 90 km from Pune on the Pune-Nashik highway and about 7 km from Junnar district. Girijatmaj is the only Ganapati in Ashtavinayak who is in a cave in the mountains.

The story of the birth of Girijatmaj

Various legends are told about the birth of Lenyadri Ganesh, who is revered as Girijatmaj. 'Girija' means Parvati 'Atmaja' means son. Parvati did penance in the mountains of Lenyadri, so that she could have a son. He made a clay idol to concentrate the mind and specially served him.

Lenyadri village is situated on the banks of river Kukadi. This hill near Lenyadri has 28 Buddhist caves to the east and west of the temple. In the seventh cave there is a temple of Girijatmaj, where there is a stone idol of Lord Ganesha. This cave is also called Ganesh cave. One has to climb about 300 steps to reach the temple. The architecture of the temple has no arches, mandapas, or chontiyas. The cave is 51 feet wide and 57 feet long, but there is no pillar support anywhere. There are 4 water tanks near the temple, and there is water in them throughout the year. The specialty of this temple is that the whole temple is made of a single big stone. There is no light bulb in the cave as long as the sun is there. There is no record of who built this cave and when.

Function

Devjanam Kirtan ceremony is a special festival celebrated at this place during Ganeshotsav. On the day of Ganesh establishment, at 10:00 in the morning, the kirtana of God's birth is done. Devotees are always present for this kirtan. This hill station comes within the limits of Gole Gaon Gram Panchayat. Food Prasad is distributed after the Kirtan. In Ganeshotsav, attractive decoration of flowers is done in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. During this, thousands of devotees from the region come to the temple for darshan.
