नागेश्वर मंदिर (ज्योतिर्लिंग) Nageshwar Temple (Jyoterlinga) शिव जी के बारह ज्योतिर्लिंग में से एक है। 12 ज्योतिर्लिंग में दसवां स्थान रखने वाले नागेश्वर मंदिर (ज्योतिर्लिंग) Nageshwar Temple (Jyoterlinga) की महिमा अपरंपार है। कहा जाता है नागेश्वर मंदिर (ज्योतिर्लिंग) Nageshwar Temple (Jyoterlinga) ढाई हजार साल पुराना है। नागेश्वर मंदिर (ज्योतिर्लिंग) Nageshwar Temple (Jyoterlinga)  द्वारका, गुजरात के बाहरी क्षेत्र में स्थित है। हिंदू धर्म के अनुसार नागेश्वर अर्थात नागों का ईश्वर होता है। यह विष आदि से बचाव का सांकेतिक भी है। 'रूद्र संहिता' में इस भगवान को दारूकावने नागेशं कहां गया है।

भगवान शिव का यह प्रसिद्ध ज्योतिर्लिंग गुजरात प्रांत के द्वारिका पुरी से लगभग 17 मील की दूरी पर स्थित है। इस पवित्र ज्योतिर्लिंग के दर्शन की शास्त्रों में बड़ी महिमा बताई गई है। कहा गया है कि जो श्रद्धा पूर्वक इसकी उत्पत्ति और महात्म्य का कथा सुनेगा वह सारे पापों से छुटकारा पाकर समस्त सुखों का भोग करते हुए अंत में भगवान शिव के परम पवित्र दिव्य धाम को प्राप्त होगा।

मंदिर का गर्भगृह सभा मंडप से निचले स्तर पर स्थित है।ज्योतिर्लिंग मध्यम बड़े आकार का है जिसके ऊपर चांदी का एक आवरण चढ़ा रहता है। ज्योतिर्लिंग पर ही एक चांदी के नाग की आकृति बनी हुई है।ज्योतिर्लिंग के पीछे माता पार्वती की मूर्ति स्थापित है।गर्भ गृह में पुरुष भक्त सिर्फ धोती पहनकर ही प्रवेश कर सकते हैं वह भी तब जब उन्हें अभिषेक करवाना है। यहां पर मंदिर परिसर में भगवान शिव की पद्मासन मुद्रा में एक विशालकाय (80 फीट ऊंची)मूर्ति स्थापित है, जो यहां का मुख्य आकर्षण है।

इस ज्योतिर्लिंग के संबंध में पुराणों में यह कथा वर्णित है-

सुप्रिय नामक एक बड़ा धर्मात्मा और सदाचारी वैश्य था। वह भगवान शिव का अनन्य भक्त था वह निरंतर भगवान शिव की पूजा, आराधना और ध्यान में तल्लीन रहता था। अपने सारे कार्य वह भगवान शिव को अर्पित करके करता था। मन, वचन और कर्म से वह शिव की पूजा-अर्चना में डूबा रहता था। उसकी इस शिव भक्ति से दारूक नामक एक राक्षस बड़ा ही क्रोधित रहता था।

उसे भगवान शिव की यह पूजा किसी भी प्रकार अच्छी नहीं लगती थी। वह निरंतर सुप्रिय की पूजा-अर्चना में विघ्न डालता रहता था। एक बार सुप्रिय नौका पर सवार होकर कहीं जा रहा था। उस दुष्ट राक्षस दारुक ने यह उपयुक्त अवसर देखकर नाव पर हमला कर दिया। उसने नौका पर सवार सभी यात्रियों को पकड़ कर अपनी राजधानी में कैद कर लिया। सुप्रिय कारागार में भी अपने नित्यनियम के अनुसार भगवान शिव की पूजा आराधना करने लगे।

अन्य बंदी साथियों को भी वह शिवभक्ति की प्रेरणा देने लगे। दारुक ने जब अपने सेवकों से सुप्रिया के विषय में यह समाचार सुना तो वह क्रोधित होकर कारागार में आ पहुंचा। शुक्रिया उस समय दोनों आंखें बंद करके भगवान शिव में ध्यान लगाए बैठे हुए थे। उस राक्षस ने उनकी यह मुद्रा देखकर क्रोध में चिल्लाते हुए बोला-'अरे दुष्ट वैश्य ! आंखें बंद करके इस समय कौन से यहां उपद्रव या षड्यंत्र के बारे में सोच रहा है।'उसके यह कहने पर भी धर्मात्मा शिव भक्त सुप्रिय की की समाधि भंग नहीं हुई। अब तो वह दारुक राक्षस क्रोध से एकदम पागल हो उठा। उसने तत्काल अपने अनुचरों को सुप्रिय तथा अन्य सभी बंदियों को मारने का आदेश दे डाला। सुप्रिय उसके इस आदेश से जरा भी विचलित और भयभीत नहीं हुए।

वह एकाग्र मन से अपनी और अन्य बंदियों के मुक्ति के लिए भगवान शिव का ध्यान करने लगे। उन्हें यह पूर्ण विश्वास था कि मेरे आराध्य भगवान शिव जी इस विपत्ति से अवश्य ही मुक्ति दिलाएंगे। उनकी प्रार्थना सुनकर भगवान शिव जी तत्क्षण उस कारागार में एक ऊंचे स्थान पर एक चमकते हुए सिंहासन पर स्थित होकर ज्योतिर्लिंग के रूप में प्रकट हो गए।

उन्होंने इस प्रकार सुप्रिय को दर्शन देकर अपना पशुपति अस्त्र भी प्रदान किया। इस अस्त्र से राक्षस दारूक और उसके सहायक का वध करके सुप्रिय शिव धाम को चले गए। भगवान शिव के आदेशानुसार ही इस ज्योतिर्लिंग का नाम 'नागेश्वर' पड़ा।

English Translate

Nageshwar Temple 

 Nageshwar Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Shiva.  The glory of Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, which is ranked 10th in the 12 Jyotirlinga, is incomparable. The temple or temple is two and a half thousand years old. The Nageshwar temple is located on the outskirts of Dwarka, Gujarat.  According to Hinduism, Nageshwar means the God of serpents.  It is also symbolic of protection from poison etc.  In the 'Rudra Samhita', where has this god Daraukavane Nagesham gone.

 This famous Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva is located about 17 miles from Dwarka Puri in Gujarat province.  The scriptures of the philosophy of this sacred Jyotirlinga are told in great glory.  It is said that one who will listen to the story of its origin and greatness with reverence, will get rid of all sins and enjoy all the pleasures and in the end will attain the ultimate holy abode of Lord Shiva.

 The sanctum sanctorum of the temple is located at a lower level than the sabha pavilion. The Jyotirlinga is medium to large size with a silver casing mounted on it.  Jyotirlinga has a silver serpent figure on it. The idol of Goddess Parvati is installed behind the Jyotirlinga. Male devotees can enter the Garbha Griha by wearing only dhoti only when they have to be anointed.  A huge (80 feet high) statue of Lord Shiva in the Padmasana Mudra is installed in the temple premises, which is the main attraction here.

 Nageshwar Temple (Jyoterlinga)  The story

 In connection with this Jyotirlinga, this story is described in the Puranas-

 There was a big religious and virtuous Vaishya named Supriya.  He was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and was constantly engrossed in worshiping, worshiping and meditating on Lord Shiva.  He used to do all his work by offering it to Lord Shiva.  With mind, words and deeds, he used to be immersed in the worship of Shiva.  Due to his devotion to Shiva, a demon named Darook was very angry.

 He did not like this worship of Lord Shiva in any way.  He was constantly disturbed in the worship of Supriya.  Once, Supriya was going on a boat and going somewhere.  The evil demon Daruk, seeing this opportune occasion, attacked the boat.  He captured all the passengers aboard the ferry and imprisoned him in his capital.  According to his routine in the Supriya prison, he started worshiping Lord Shiva.

 He also started inspiring Shiva bhakti to other inmates.  When Daruk heard this news about Supriya from his servants, he got angry and came to the prison.  At that time both of them were sitting with their eyes closed and meditating on Lord Shiva.  Seeing this pose of that monster, he shouted in anger and said - 'O evil rascal!  Who is thinking about the nuisance or conspiracy here at this time with his eyes closed. '' Even after this, the tomb of the devotional Shiva devotee Supriya was not broken.  Now he got completely mad from the rarest demon rage.  He immediately ordered his followers to kill Supriya and all the other prisoners.  Supriya was not at all distracted and frightened by this order.

 He started meditating on Lord Shiva for the liberation of himself and other prisoners from the concentrated mind.  He had full faith that my adorable Lord Shiva would definitely get rid of this calamity.  Hearing their prayers, Lord Shiva immediately appeared as a Jyotirlinga, situated on a shining throne at a high place in that prison.

 He thus gave his Pashupati weapon by giving darshan to Supriya.  With this weapon, after killing the demon Daruk and his assistant, Supriya went to Shiva Dham.  This Jyotirlinga was named 'Nageshwar' according to the order of Lord Shiva.
