राष्ट्रपति रामनाथ कोविंद ने 24 फरवरी 2021 ( बुधवार) को गुजरात के अहमदाबाद में विश्व के सबसे बड़ा क्रिकेट स्टेडियम (मोटेरा स्टेडियम ~ नरेंद्र मोदी स्टेडियम ~ सरदार पटेल स्टेडियम) का उद्घाटन किया। उद्घाटन में मोटेरा स्टेडियम का नाम बदलकर प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के नाम पर रखा गया। इसे अब तक सरदार पटेल या मोटेरा स्टेडियम के नाम से जाना जाता था। अहमदाबाद के मोटेरा इलाके में स्थित सरदार पटेल क्रिकेट स्टेडियम अब दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा क्रिकेट ग्राउंड हो गया है। (मोटेरा स्टेडियम ~ नरेंद्र मोदी स्टेडियम ~ सरदार पटेल स्टेडियम)

इस मौके पर केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री और गुजरात क्रिकेट एसोसिएशन के अध्यक्ष अमित शाह, गुजरात के राज्यपाल आचार्य देवव्रत,खेल मंत्री किरण रिजिजू और बीसीसीआई सचिव जय शाह मौजूद रहे।

 कार्यक्रम को संबोधित करते हुए अमित शाह ने कहा कि-"आज भारत के खेल जगत का स्वर्णिम दिन है। आज भारत के राष्ट्रपति जी के कर -कमलों से लौह पुरुष भारत रत्न सरदार पटेल जी के नाम से जोड़कर एक बड़े स्पोर्ट्स एनक्लेव का भूमि पूजन हुआ है"। उन्होंने कहा कि "सरदार पटेल स्पोर्ट्स एनक्लेव में विश्व की सभी खेलों की व्यवस्था होगी। देश और दुनिया के सभी खेलों के सभी खिलाड़ियों की ट्रेनिंग और रहने की सुविधा भी होगी"। अमित शाह जी ने कहा कि "यहां 3000 बच्चों के एक साथ खेलने और रहने की व्यवस्था होगी"। उन्होंने बताया कि "सरदार पटेल स्पोर्ट्स एनक्लेव, नरेंद्र मोदी स्टेडियम और नारायणपुरा में बनने वाले स्पोर्ट्स कंपलेक्स यह तीनों मिलाकर किसी भी अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्पर्धा में खेलने वाले सभी खेलों को अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर खेलने की पूरी व्यवस्था एक ही शहर में एक ही स्थान पर होगी, और अहमदाबाद को अब एक स्पोर्ट्स सिटी के नाम से जाना जाएगा"। अमित शाह जी ने कहा कि "सरदार पटेल स्पोर्ट्स एनक्लेव का भी भूमि पूजन आज किया है। हमारे देश को जरूरत है कि हमारे देश के युवा अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्पर्धाओं में दिखाई दे और मेडल जीते।मोदी जी ने इस स्पोर्ट्स एनक्लेव को बनाकर इस क्षेत्र को बहुत बड़ा उपहार दिया है"।

मोटेरा स्टेडियम की खास बातें-

 * अहमदाबाद के साबरमती तट के निकट स्थिति यह स्टेडियम आधुनिक खेल सुविधाओं से सुसज्जित है और यहां एक साथ 1.32 लाख लोग बैठकर मैच देख सकते हैं। 

* यह स्टेडियम 63 एकड़ क्षेत्र में फैला हुआ है। स्टेडियम में चार ड्रेसिंग रूम और तीन प्रैक्टिस ग्राउंड है।

* क्रिकेट मैदान के साथ यहां पर 236 एकड़ में फैले इस मोटेरा स्टेडियम में एथलेटिक्स ट्रेक एंड फील्ड, फुटबॉल स्टेडियम, हॉकी तथा टेनिस का मैदान, वेलड्रम, स्केटिंग, वॉलीबॉल, बोटिंग सेंटर आदि भी बनाए गए हैं।

* यहां इनडोर और आउटडोर दोनों प्रैक्टिस की सुविधा है।

* यहां का ड्रेनेज सिस्टम इतना अत्याधुनिक है कि बारिश बंद होने के आधे घंटे बाद ही मैच शुरू हो सकता है।

* देश का पहला ऐसा है स्टेडियम है जहां पर एक खास तरह की एलईडी फ्लड लाइट लगाई गई है।

* पुर्ननिर्मित इस स्टेडियम में करीब 800 करोड़ रुपए की लागत लगी है।

* बताया जाता है कि यह ओलंपिक आकार के 32 फुटबॉल स्टेडियमों के बराबर है।

 इतिहास

मोटेरा स्टेडियम का इतिहास काफी रोचक रहा है। इस मैदान पर भारत के महान क्रिकेटर सुनील गावस्कर ने टेस्ट में 10000 रन पूरे किए थे। इसके अलावा मोटेरा की पिच पर 1987, 1996 और 2011 के आईसीसी वनडे क्रिकेट वर्ल्ड कप के मैचों का आयोजन किया जा चुका है।

इस ऐतिहासिक मैदान पर भारत की टीम अपने टेस्ट क्रिकेट के इतिहास का डे-नाइट टेस्ट मैच खेलने 24 फरवरी 2021को उतरी है। वहीं भारत में यह दूसरा डे-नाइट टेस्ट मैच खेला जा रहा है। इसी ग्राउंड पर 24 फरवरी 2020 को नमस्ते ट्रंप कार्यक्रम का आयोजन भी हुआ था, जिसमें प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने अमेरिका के तत्कालीन राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप का स्वागत किया था।

 The history of Motera Stadium has been quite interesting. On this ground, India's great cricketer Sunil Gavaskar had completed 10,000 runs in Tests. Apart from this, matches of 1987, 1996 and 2011 ICC ODI Cricket World Cup have been organized on Motera's pitch.

 On this historic ground, India's team landed on 24 February 2021 to play a day-night Test match of their Test cricket history. This is the second day-night Test match being played in India. The Namaste Trump program was also organized on this ground on 24 February 2020, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the then US President Donald Trump.
