देवाधिदेव महादेव की नगरी काशी में कुछ मंदिर बेहद अद्भुत और तमाम रहस्यों को छिपाए हुए हैं। ऐसा ही करीब 500 साल पुराना रत्नेश्वर महादेव मंदिर(Ratneshwar Temple of Lord Shiva) उत्तर प्रदेश के वाराणसी में स्थित है। रत्नेश्वर महादेव मंदिर (Ratneshwar Temple of Lord Shiva) वाराणसी में सिंधिया घाट पर मणिकर्णिका घाट के ठीक सामने मौजूद है।रत्नेश्वर महादेव मंदिर(Ratneshwar Temple of Lord Shiva) अपने नींव से 9 डिग्री झुका हुआ है और इसकी ऊंचाई 13.14 मीटर है। इस मंदिर की वास्तुकला बेहद अलौकिक है। सैकड़ों सालों से यह मंदिर एक ओर झुका हुआ है।

हाल ही में ट्विटर पर एक संस्था लास्ट टेंपल ने इसकी तस्वीर लगाकर पूछा था कि क्या बता सकते हैं कि किस महान शहर में यह मंदिर स्थित है। जवाब में पीएम नरेंद्र मोदी ने ट्वीट किया- 'यह काशी का रत्नेश्वर महादेव मंदिर है अपने पूर्ण सौंदर्य के साथ' इसके बाद यह मंदिर दुनिया भर में चर्चा में आ गया।

यूनेस्को की विश्व धरोहर में शुमार इटली में स्थित विश्व विख्यात पीसा की मीनार का झुकाव 4 डिग्री है, जबकि यह मंदिर गंगा की धारा के विरुद्ध मणिकर्णिका घाट की ओर अपने अक्ष पर 9 डिग्री झुका हुआ है। यह मंदिर वास्तुकला के साथ-साथ नागर शैली की उत्कृष्टतम कला का प्रतीक है। यह गुजरात के सोलंकी वंश के बनाए गए मंदिरों से मेल खाता है। 'काशी खंड' में भी वीरतीर्थ और विरेश्वर दर्शन और सिंधिया घाट पर स्थित महादेव के मंदिर में पूजा का जिक्र है। बीएचयू में कला-इतिहास विभाग के प्रोफेसर अतुल त्रिपाठी के अनुसार ब्रिटेन के प्रख्यात चित्रकार विलियम डेनियल ने 1834 में बनारस यात्रा के दौरान रत्नेश्वर महादेव की पेंटिंग बनाई थी, जिसमें इसका शिखर झुका  है।वही राबर्ट इलियट की 1824 में बनाई गई पेंटिंग में दो मंदिर झुके हुए हैं, इससे स्पष्ट होता है कि एक मंदिर गंगा में डूब चुका है।

वाराणसी में गंगा घाट पर जहां सभी मंदिर ऊपर की ओर बने हैं वहीं रत्नेश्वर महादेव मंदिर मणिकर्णिका घाट के नीचे बना है। घाट के नीचे होने के कारण यह मंदिर साल के 6 महीनों से भी अधिक समय तक गंगा नदी के जल में डूबा रहता है। बाढ़ की स्थिति में नदी का पानी मंदिर के शिखर तक पहुंच जाता है।स्थानीय पुजारियों के मुताबिक, इस मंदिर में साल के सिर्फ दो-तीन महीने ही पूजा होती है। हमेशा पानी में डूबे रहने के बावजूद भी यह रहस्य का विषय है कि पत्थरों से बना यह वजनी मंदिर टेढ़ा होकर भी सैकड़ों सालों से कैसे खड़ा है।

किवदंती

एक प्रचलित किवदंती के अनुसार, इसे राजा मान सिंह के एक अनाम सेवक ने अपनी मां रत्नाबाई के लिए लगभग 500 साल पहले बनवाया था। मंदिर का निर्माण करने के बाद, उन्होंने गर्व से यह दावा किया कि, उन्होंने अपने मां का कर्ज चुका दिया है। हालांकि, चुंकी किसी भी मां का कर्ज चुकाया नहीं जा सकता, इसलिए मां द्वारा श्राप के कारण मंदिर झुकना शुरू हो गया। यह मंदिर के वैकल्पिक नाम का कारण है मटरु-रिन(मातृ-ऋण)

एक अन्य किवदंती के अनुसार, वाराणसी में कई मंदिरों और कुंडों का निर्माण महारानी अहिल्याबाई होल्कर ने करवाया था। उनके शासनकाल में उनकी दासी रत्ना बाई ने मणिकर्णिका घाट के सामने शिव मंदिर  बनवाने की इच्छा जताई, और इस मंदिर का निर्माण करवाया। उस दासी के नाम पर ही इस मंदिर का नाम रत्नेश्वर पड़ा।

Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple

 Some temples in the city of Kashi of Devadhidev Mahadev are very amazing and hide all mysteries.  About 500 years old Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple (Ratneshwar Temple of Lord Shiva) is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.  Ratneshwar Temple of Lord Shiva is located right in front of the Manikarnika Ghat at the Scindia Ghat in Varanasi. The Ratneshwar Temple of Lord Shiva is 9 degrees inclined from its foundation and is 13.14 meters high.  The architecture of this temple is very supernatural.  This temple has been tilted side by side for hundreds of years.

 Recently, on Twitter, an organization Last Temple had put a picture of it and asked whether we can tell in which great city this temple is located.  In response, PM Narendra Modi tweeted- 'This is the Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple of Kashi with its full beauty' After this the temple became famous in the world.

 Located in Italy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the world-famous Pisa Minar has a tilt of 4 degrees, while the temple is tilted 9 degrees on its axis against the Ganges stream towards Manikarnika Ghat.  This temple is a symbol of architecture as well as the exquisite art of the Nagara style.  This corresponds to the temples built of the Solanki dynasty of Gujarat.  The 'Kashi Khand' also mentions Veeratirtha and Veereshwar darshan and worship in Mahadev's temple on the Scindia Ghat.  According to Professor Atul Tripathi of the Department of Art-History at BHU, the famous British painter William Daniel made a painting of Ratneshwar Mahadev during his visit to Banaras in 1834, in which the pinnacle of Robert Elliot's painting was made in 1824.  It is clear that a temple has been submerged in the Ganges.

 While all the temples are built upwards on the Ganges Ghat in Varanasi, the Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple is built under the Manikarnika Ghat.  Being under the Ghat, this temple remains submerged in the waters of the Ganges for more than 6 months of the year.  In the event of a flood, the water of the river reaches the summit of the temple. According to local priests, this temple is worshiped only two-three months of the year.  Despite always being submerged in water, it is a matter of mystery how this weighing temple made of stones has remained crooked and stood for hundreds of years.

 According to a popular legend, it was built by an unnamed servant of Raja Man Singh for his mother Ratnabai about 500 years ago.  After the temple was built, he proudly claimed that he had repaid his mother's debt.  However, since no mother's debt can be repaid, the temple starts to bow down due to curse by the mother.  This is the reason for the temple's alternate name Matru-rin (maternal loan)

 According to another legend, many temples and pools in Varanasi were built by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar.  During her reign, her maid Ratna Bai expressed her desire to build a Shiva temple in front of Manikarnika Ghat, and got this temple constructed.  The name of this temple was named Ratneshwar only after that maid.
