मेरे गेहूं की बाली 

एक दिन की बात है जहांपना अकबर के दरबार में सुबह-सुबह कोई सफाई कर रहा था। वह एक फूलदान की सफाई कर रहा था। फिर अचानक वह फूलदान उसके हाथ से फिसल जाता है और टूट जाता है। सेवक फूलदान टूटने से घबरा जाता है और कहता है "या खुदा ये क्या हो गया"। यह तो जहांपना का सबसे पसंदीदा फूलदान था। अब जहांपना मुझे सजा देंगे और वह फूलदान के टूटे हुए टुकड़े समेट कर घबराता हुआ चला जाता है।

तभी वहां जहाँ पनाह अकबर आते हैं और अपना फूलदान न पाकर परेशान होने लगते हैं और अपने सिपाही को बुलाते हैं और कहते हैं –

अकबर – सिपाही यहाँ पर जो फूलदान रहा करता था वो कहाँ गया, कहीं वो फिर से तो कहीं नही खो गया।

सिपाही – जब मैंने सेवक को सफाई करने के लिए भेजा था तब तो यहीं था, उस सेवक को ही पता होगा के फूल दान कहाँ गया?

अकबर – जाओ उस सेवक को बुला कर लाओ और सिपाही सेवक को बुलाने चला जाता है। थोड़ी देर बाद सिपाही सेवक को बुलाकर लाता है।

अकबर – सेवक यहाँ पर जो फूल दान रखा था वो कहाँ गया?

सेवक बहुत घबरा जाता है और कहता है –

सेवक – जहाँ पनाह वो मैं फूलदान को साफ करने के लिये ले गया था।

अकबर – लेकिन साफ करने के लिए फूलदान को यहाँ से ले जाने की क्या ज़रूरत थी?

सेवक रोने लगता है और कहता है –

सेवक – जहाँ पनाह वो फूलदान मुझसे गलती से टूट गया।

अकबर – लेकिन अभी तो तुमने कहा था कि तुम फूलदान साफ करने के लिए ले गए थे। मैं तुम्हे फूल दान टूटने के लिये तो माफ करता हूँ। लेकिन मैं तुम्हे झूठ बोलने के लिए माफ नही करूंगा। मुझे झूठ से सख्त नफरत है। जाओ तुम्हे सल्तनत छोड़ने की सजा देता हूँ। सिपाहियों ले जाओ इसे।

सेवक – जहाँपनाह मुझे माफ़ कर दें मैं बहुत घबरा गया था, मुझे इतनी बड़ी सजा मत दो। जहाँ पनाह रहम! जहाँ पनाह रहम!

और सिपाही उसे खींचता हुआ ले गया, फिर अगले दिन राजा अकबर ने अपने दरबार मे ये किस्सा सुनाया। दरबार में बैठे सभी लोगो ने अकबर की इस बात की तारीफ की। वाह! जहाँ पनाह आपने बहुत अच्छा किया। झूठ कभी नही बोलना चाहिए। सभी लोग कहने लगे हमने तो कभी झूठ नही बोला। जहाँ पनाह बीरबल खामोश बैठे रहते हैं, अकबर बीरबल से पूँछते हैं।

अकबर – बीरबल क्या हुआ तुम ख़ामोश क्यों हो? तुम्हारा क्या कहना है? क्या तुमने कभी झूठ बोला है?

बीरबल – जहाँ पनाह ऐसा कोई नही होता जो कभी जिंदगी में झूठ न बोले कभी न कभी तो इंसान को झूठ बोलना ही पड़ता है। कभी-कभी इंसान इसलिए झूठ बोलता है कि हमारे सच से किसी को तकलीफ न हो। अपने आप को शर्म से बचाने के लिए भी इंसान झूठ बोलता है। इंसान को कभी न कभी झूठ बोलना ही पड़ता है। मैं कैसे कह दूं कि मैंने कभी झूठ नही बोला।

अकबर – क्या, क्या! मैं ये समझू मेरे नौ रत्नों में से एक रत्न झूठा है। इस सल्तनत में सभी के लिए कानून बराबर है। जाओ तुम इस दरबार से निकल जाओ।

बीरबल – लेकिन जहाँ पनाह मेरी बात तो सुनिए!

अकबर – हम कुछ नही सुनना चाहते हैं, चले जाओ!

तभी बीरबल वहाँ से चले जाते हैं।

फिर क्या था बीरबल अब सोचने लगे के जहाँ पनाह को अब कैसे समझाया जाए। फिर क्या था बीरबल अपना दिमाग चलाने लगे और बहुत सोचने के बाद उन्होंने एक गेँहू की बाली ली और सेवक को बुलाया और सेवक से कहा –

बीरबल – सेवक राम ये गेहूँ की बाली लो और शहर का सबसे अच्छा सुनार ढूंढो और एक ऐसी ही गेहूं की बाली सोने की बनबा कर लाओ, ध्यान रहे गेहूँ के दानों से लेकर बाली तक सभी सोने का होना चाहिए।

सेवक – जी हुजूर मैं अभी जाता हूँ।

और कुछ दिन बाद वो सोने की डाली लेकर अकबर के दरबार मे गए।

अकबर – तुम्हारी हिम्मत कैसे हुइ दरबार में आने की तुम्हे यहाँ आने से मना किया था न।

बीरबल – जहाँ पनाह मैं यही किसी औधे की हैसियत से नही बल्कि मैं एक नागरिक की हैसियत से आया हूँ। मैं आपको दुनिया की सबसे अमीर सल्तनत का बादशाह बनाना चाहता हूँ। ये देखिए सोने के गेहूं की बाली।

अकबर और वहाँ मौजूद सभी लोग बहुत हैरान होकर उस बाली को देखते हैं। 

अकबर – ये तो सचमुच सोने की बाली है ये तुम्हे कहाँ मिली?

बीरबल – जहाँपनाह ये कोई साधारण बाली नही है, ये मुझे एक ज्योतिषी ने दी थी, जो बहुत कड़ी तपस्या के बाद उन्हें मिली थी। जहाँपनाह वो कोई साधारण ज्योतिष नही था, एक दिन वो जयोतिष मुझे नदी के किनारे मिला और वो ज्योतिष वहां नदी के पानी के ऊपर चल रहा था। इस तरह से जिस तरह हम जमीन पर चलते हैं।

अकबर हैरान होकर पूछते हैं –

अकबर – अच्छा इतने महान ज्योतिष हैं तो फिर चलो देर कैसी है इसे अभी खेत मे बो देते हैं।

बीरबल – हाँ-हाँ जहाँ पनाह मैंने इसका इंतेज़ाम पहले ही कर रखा है। मैंने एक बहुत अच्छी जगह इसके लिए देख रखी है। हम कल सुबह इस बाली को वहाँ बोएंगे।

अकबर – हाँ बीरबल हम कल सुबह ही इस बाली को बोयेंगे

और ये सब को बता देना की हम ये सोने की बाली उस उपजाऊ ज़मीन पर बोने वाले हैं।

बीरबल – जी जहाँ पनाह मैं कल सुबह ही आ जाऊंगा सब को ले कर।

फिर अगले दिन अकबर और बीरबल बहुत से लोगो के साथ उस जगह पर आते हैं।

बीरबल – जहाँपनाह ये है वो जगह जिसके बारे में मैं आपको बता रहा था।

अकबर – बीरबल तो देरी क्या है इस बाली को जाकर बो दो।

बीरबल – मैं नही जहाँ पनाह, मैं इसे नही बो सकता हूँ। क्योंकि इस बाली को वही बो सकता है, जिसने कभी झूठ नही बोला हो। मैंने तो कई बार झूठ बोला है। आप ये काम किसी और से करबा लीजिये।

अकबर वहाँ खड़े लोगों से पूछते हैं –

अकबर – क्या आप में से कोई है जिसने कभी झूठ नही बोला है।

वहाँ खड़े सभी लोग चुप रहते हैं, कोई आगे नही आता है।

अकबर – हमे ये उम्मीद नहीं थी।

बीरबल – जहाँ पनाह अब आप ही एक ऐसे शख्स हैं, जिसने कभी झूठ नही बोला। आप ही इस बाली को बो दीजिये।

अकबर बहुत हिचकिचाते हैं और कहते हैं –

अकबर – मैं, मैं कैसे, मैने भी कभी न कभी तो झूठ बोला है, बचपन में या फिर कभी और।

बीरबल – जी जहाँ पनाह मेरे कहने का भी मतलब वही था। इंसान को कभी न कभी झूठ बोलना ही पड़ता है। या किसी को ठेस न पहुंचे इसलिए या फिर शर्मिदा न होना पड़े। कभी इसलिए और कभी कभी किसी अच्छे काम के लिए भी झूठ बोलना पड़ता है और हाँ जहां पना मैंने वह बाली शहर के सुनार से बनबाई थी। ये मुझे किसी ज्योतिष ने नही दी थी। मैंने आप को समझाने के लिए ऐसा किया था।

अकबर – हमे माफ कर दो बीरबल हमे ऐसा नही करना चाहिए। हम आपको निर्दोष करार करते हैं। तुम हमारे सच्चे मित्र हो हम समझ गए बीरबल।

और इस तरह अकबर को अपनी गलती का एहसास हो गया। और अकबर ने उस सेवक को भी माफ कर दिया जिससे वह फूलदान टूटा था।

English Translate

Gehun ki Bali

 There is a matter of one day where someone was cleaning in the court of Akbar in the morning.  He was cleaning a vase.  Then suddenly the vase slips from her hand and breaks.  The servant is terrified of breaking the vase and says "Oh God what happened."  This was Jahanapna's favorite vase.  Now Jahanpana will punish me and he goes to panic, after including the broken pieces of the vase.

 That is where the Akbar comes and does not get his vase and gets upset and calls his soldier and says -

 Akbar - The soldier who used to keep the vase here, where did he go, somewhere he was not lost again.

 Soldier - When I sent the servant to do the cleaning, it was here, only that servant would know where is the vase of flowers?

 Akbar - Go call that servant and the soldier goes to call the servant.  After some time, the soldier brinbs the servant.

 Akbar - Where did the vase the flowers go?

 The servant gets very nervous and says -

 Servant - I took the vase to clean it.

 Akbar - But what was the need to take the vase from here to clean it?

 The servant starts crying and says -

 Servant - The vase where the shelter was accidentally broken from me.

 Akbar - But you just said that you took it to clean the vase.  I forgive you for breaking the vase of flowers.  But I will not forgive you for lying.  I hated lies.  Go punish you for leaving the Sultanate.  Take the soldiers to it.

 Servant - Forgive me, I was very nervous, do not punish me so much.  Where the shelter is mercy!  Where the shelter is mercy!

 And the soldier pulled him away, then the next day King Akbar told this story in his court.  All those sitting in the court praised Akbar for this.  Wow!  Where you sheltered very well.  Never lie  Everyone said that we never lied.  Where the hideout Birbal sits silently, Akbar asks Birbal.

 Akbar - Birbal, what happened, why are you silent?  what do you say?  Have you ever lied?

 Birbal - Where there is no shelter who never tells a lie in life, sometimes a person has to lie.  Sometimes a person lies because no one is hurt by our truth.  To protect oneself from shame, a human lies.  A human has to lie sometimes.  How can I say that I never lied?

 Akbar - what, what!  I understand that one of my nine jewels is false.  The law is equal for all in this Sultanate.  Go out of this court.

 Birbal - But listen to my shelter!

 Akbar - We don't want to hear anything, go away!

 Then Birbal leaves from there.

 Then what was Birbal now thinking that how to explain the shelter now.  What was it then Birbal started running his mind and after thinking a lot, he took a wheat earring and called the servant and told the servant -

 Birbal - servant Ram, take this wheat earring and find the best goldsmith in the city and make a similar gold earring, make sure all the gold should be there from the grains of wheat to the earring.

 Servant - Sir, I go now.

 And a few days later he went to Akbar's court with a gold cast.

 Akbar - How did you dare to come to the court, you were not allowed to come here. Birbal - Where the shelter is I have not come as a citizen but I have come as a citizen.  I want to make you the king of the world's richest sultanate.  See this earring of gold wheat.

 Akbar and all the people present there are very surprised to see that Bali.

 Akbar - This is really gold earring, where did you get it?

 Birbal - Jahanpanah is not an ordinary earring, it was given to me by an astrologer, who got it after very hard penance.  Where the wall was not an ordinary astrology, one day I got that Jayotish on the banks of the river and that astrology was going on over the river water.  This is the way we walk on land.

 Akbar asks surprised -

 Akbar - Well, astrology is such a great thing, so how long is it? Let us sow it in the field now.

 Birbal - Yes - Yes, where I have already organized this shelter.  I have seen a very good place for this.  We will sow this Bali there tomorrow morning.

 Akbar - yes Birbal we will sow this earring tomorrow morning

 And tell everyone that we are going to sow this gold earring on that fertile land.

 Birbal - Where the shelter I will come tomorrow morning by taking everyone.

 Then the next day Akbar and Birbal come to that place with many people.

 Birbal - Jahanpanah this is the place I was telling you about.

 Akbar - Birbal, what is the delay, go and sow this earring.

 Birbal - I do not shelter where I cannot sow it.  Because only one who can never sow this earring has lied.  I have lied many times.  You get this work done by someone else.

 Akbar asks the people standing there -

 Akbar - Is there anyone among you who has never lied?

 All the people standing there remain silent, no one comes forward.

 Akbar - We did not expect this.

 Birbal - Shelter Now you are the one who never lied.  You can sow this earring.

 Akbar hesitates a lot and says -

 Akbar - I, how can I, I have lied at some time, in my childhood or sometimes.

 Birbal - Where the shelter was, I mean the same thing.  A human has to lie sometimes.  Do not hurt anyone or do not be embarrassed.  Sometimes because of this and sometimes for some good work you have to lie and yes, where I got it, I made it from the goldsmith of Bali city.  No astrology gave me this.  I did this to explain to you.

 Akbar - Forgive us Birbal, we should not do this.  We call you innocent.  You are our true friend, we understood Birbal.

 And thus Akbar realized his mistake.  And Akbar also forgave the servant from whom the vase was broken.
