बैरन द्वीप

बैरन द्वीप भारत का एकमात्र सक्रिय ज्वालामुखी है जो अंडमान निकोबार द्वीपसमूह की राजधानी पोर्ट ब्लेयर से 138  किलोमीटर की दूर बंगाल की  खाड़ी में स्थित है। इस  द्वीप की गोलाकार आकृति लगभग 3 किलोमीटर है और यह अंडमान द्वीपों का पूर्वी द्वीप है। 150 वर्षों तक निष्क्रिय रहने के बाद 1991 में सक्रिय हुआ तथा उसके बाद यह रुक रुक कर सक्रिय होता रहा है। 

यह भारत ही नहीं अपितु दक्षिण एशिया का एकमात्र सक्रिय ज्वालामुखी है । ज्वालामुखी वहां पाए जाते हैं, जहां टेक्टोनिक प्लेटों में तनाव हो या पृथ्वी का भीतरी भाग बहुत गर्म हो। बैरन द्वीप के ज्वालामुखी का पहला रिकॉर्ड सन 1787 का है। उसके बाद यहां 10 बार ज्वालामुखी फट चुका है। ये विस्फोट 1991, 1994-95 और 2005 में हुए थे। इस विस्फोट के दौरान इसमें से 2008 तक लगातार लावा निकलता रहा। जनवरी से मार्च 2009 तक ज्वालामुखी में स्ट्रोमबोलियन विस्फोट हुए। जनवरी 2010 में, ज्वालामुखी से 0.93 मील राख का बादल उत्सर्जित किया गया था। 2013 में एक और बड़ा विस्फोट हुआ था जब ज्वालामुखी से 20,000 फुट की राख का बादल हटा दिया गया था। राख का बादल दक्षिण पश्चिम में 100 से अधिक समुद्री मील तक फैला हुआ था।

बैरन का अर्थ बंजर है। नाम के अनुसार यह स्थान भी बंजर है। यह मनुष्य के रहने लायक नहीं है । हम यहां कुछ वन्यजीव ही देख पाएंगे, भले ही जीवों की संख्या कम है पर उनकी कई प्रजातियां हैं। इस द्वीप पर विभिन्न प्रकार की बकरी पाई जाती हैं, जिसे "फेरल गोट" कहते हैं। कहा जाता है कि कई साल पहले यहां कुछ नाविक इस प्रजाति के बकरी को  छोड़ कर चले गए, पर यह देखकर बहुत हैरानी होती है कि यह प्राचीन बकरियां इतने कठिन वातावरण में भी  खारा पानी पीकर जीवित है । इसके अलावा यहां विभिन्न प्रजाति के चमगादड़ पाए जाते हैं, जिन्हें "फ्लाइंग फॉक्स" कहते हैं और चूहे भी पाए जाते हैं। 

 बंजर द्वीप ज्वालामुखी आर्थिक रूप से महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि यह पर्यटकों को आकर्षित करता है। बैरन द्वीप के आसपास का पानी दुनिया के शीर्ष स्कूबा डाइविंग स्थलों में प्रतिष्ठित है। स्कूबा डाइविंग से यहां के स्पष्ट पानी में मानता रे अलग ही तरह मछलीयां, डाइवर्स कोरल, और लावा से बनी चट्टानें देखी जा सकती हैं।

English Translate

Baron Island is India's only active volcano located 138 km from Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.  The island has a circular shape of about 3 kilometers and is the easternmost island of the Andaman Islands.  Activated in 1991 after lying dormant for 150 years and after that it has been active from stop to stop.

 It is not only India but the only active volcano in South Asia.  Volcanoes are found where tectonic plates are stressed or the interior of the Earth is very hot.  The first recorded volcano of Baron Island dates back to 1787.  After that, the volcano has erupted here 10 times.  These explosions occurred in 1991, 1994–95 and 2005.  During this explosion, lava continued to flow out of it till 2008.  Strombolian eruptions occurred in the volcano from January to March 2009.  In January 2010, a cloud of ash 0.93 miles from the volcano was emitted.  Another major eruption occurred in 2013 when a 20,000-foot ash cloud was removed from the volcano.  The ash cloud extended over 100 nautical miles to the southwest.

Baron means barren.  According to the name this place is also barren.  It is not fit for humans to live.  We can only see some wildlife here, even though the number of organisms is small but they have many species.  Various types of goats are found on this island, known as "feral goats".  It is said that several years ago some sailors left this goat of this species, but it is very surprising to see that these ancient goats survive by drinking saline water even in such a difficult environment.  Apart from this, bats of various species are also known here, which are called "flying fox" and mice.

 The barren island volcano is economically important as it attracts tourists.  The waters around Baron Island are among the top scuba diving destinations in the world.  Scuba diving can see different types of fish, divers corals, and lava rocks in the clear waters here.
