पावापुरी भारत के बिहार प्रान्त के नालंदा जिले मे स्थित एक शहर है। यह जैन धर्म के मतावलंबियो के लिये एक अत्यंत पवित्र शहर है, क्यूंकि माना जाता है कि भगवान महावीर को यहीं मोक्ष की प्राप्ति हुई थी। यहाँ के जलमंदिर की शोभा देखते ही बनती है। पावापुरी का जल मंदिर जैन धर्म के अनुयायियों के लिए एक प्रमुख तीर्थ स्थल है। भगवान महावीर को इसी स्थल पर मोक्ष यानी निर्वाण की प्राप्ति हुई थी। 

जैन धर्म के 24वें तीर्थंकर भगवान महावीर का जन्म ईसा से 599 वर्ष पूर्व बिहार में वैशाली के कुण्डलपुर में हुआ था। तीस वर्ष की आयु में महावीर ने संसार से विरक्त होकर राजकाज त्याग संन्यास धारण कर लिया था। 72 वर्ष की आयु में दीपावली के दिन पावापुरी में उनका महापरिनिर्वाण हुआ। इसलिए जैन धर्म के अनुयायी भी दिवाली काफी श्रद्धा और उत्साह के साथ मनाते हैं। 

यह वही जगह है जहां भगवान महावीर ने ज्ञान प्राप्ति के बाद अपना पहला और आखिरी उपदेश दिया था। भगवान महावीर ने इसी जगह से विश्व को अहिंसा के साथ जिओ और जीने दो का संदेश दिया था। आज जहां जल मंदिर है, वहां भगवान महावीर का अंतिम संस्कार किया गया था। बताया जाता है कि भगवान महावीर के अंतिम संस्कार में लाखों लोग शामिल हुए थे। अंतिस संस्कार के बाद लोग वहां से उनके शरीर का पवित्र भस्म उठाकर अपने साथ ले जाने लगे। लेकिन लोगों का संख्या इतनी ज्यादा थी कि वे राख खत्म होने पर अपने साथ ले जाने के लिए वहां से मिट्ठी उठाने लगे। 

इस दौरान इतनी मात्रा में मिट्टी उठ गई कि वहां से जल निकल आया और एक सरोवर बन गया। देखते-देखते यह स्थल 84 बीघे के सरोवर में बदल गया। जैन धर्म के अनुयायियों का मानना है कि पावापुरी में आने मात्र से लोगों के सारे पाप मिट जाते हैं। हालांकि आज यहां जैन धर्म के मानने वाले नहीं के बराबर लोग हैं, लेकिन भगवान महावीर के प्रति श्रद्धा में कोई कमी नहीं है। दुनिया भर से पर्यटक और श्रद्धालु यहां आस्था के साथ शीश झुकाने आते हैं। 

यहां हृदय से की गई मनोकामनाएं पूरी हो जाती हैं। यहां हर साल लाखों पर्यटक आते हैं। यह जल मन्दिर काफी प्रसिद्ध और दर्शनीय है। इस शानदार और खूबसूरत मंदिर के पूजा स्थल में भगवान महावीर की एक प्राचीन चरण पादुका है। इस मंदिर का निर्माण भगवान महावीर के बड़े भाई राजा नंदीवर्धन ने करवाया था। संगमरमर से बने इस दिव्य मंदिर का बीच-बीच में जीर्णोद्धार होता रहा है।

यहाँ के स्थानीय लोगों का कहना है कि एक समय में यह सरोवर लाल कमल के फूलों से भरा रहता था और लाल कमल के फूलों के बीच अनगिनत बत्तख हुआ करते थे। लोग यहाँ आकर ही असीम शांति का अनुभव करते थे। वैसे अभी तो यहाँ लाल कमल के फूल नहीं खिले हुए हैं और बत्तख़ों की संख्या बहुत कम है, जो आप वीडियो में देख सकते हैं। हाँ पर यहाँ आकर असीम शांति का अनुभव अवश्य हुआ।  

किनारे से सरोवर के मध्य बने जलमंदिर तक जाने के लिए करीब 180 मीटर का एक पुल बना हुआ है। उत्तर दिशा की ओर पुल के शुरू में बने लाल बलुआ पत्थर से बने भव्य मेहराबी प्रवेश द्वार को पार कर यहाँ पहुंचना होता है। इस जलमंदिर की वास्तुकला, कलाकृति अतुलनीय है। इसकी शोभा देखते ही बनती है। धर्म में आस्था नहीं रखने वाले लोग भी इस मंदिर का आकर्षण और दिव्यता को देखने के लिए यहां आते हैं।

Pawapuri is a city located in Nalanda district of Bihar state of India. It is a very holy city for the followers of Jainism, because it is believed that Lord Mahavira attained salvation here. The beauty of the Jal Mandir here is worth seeing. The Jal Mandir of Pawapuri is a major pilgrimage site for the followers of Jainism. Lord Mahavira attained salvation i.e. Nirvana at this place.

Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, was born in Kundalpur, Vaishali in Bihar, 599 years before Christ. At the age of thirty, Mahavira became disillusioned with the world and renounced the kingdom and took up sanyaas. At the age of 72, he attained Mahaparinirvana in Pawapuri on the day of Diwali. Therefore, the followers of Jainism also celebrate Diwali with great devotion and enthusiasm.

This is the same place where Lord Mahavira gave his first and last sermon after attaining enlightenment. From this place, Lord Mahavira gave the message of live and let live with non-violence to the world. Today, where Jal Mandir is located, the last rites of Lord Mahavir were performed. It is said that lakhs of people attended the last rites of Lord Mahavir. After the last rites, people started taking the holy ashes of his body with them. But the number of people was so high that when the ashes were over, they started taking soil from there to take with them.

During this time, so much soil was raised that water came out from there and a lake was formed. Within no time, this place turned into a lake of 84 bighas. The followers of Jainism believe that all the sins of people are erased by just coming to Pavapuri. Although today there are almost no people who believe in Jainism here, but there is no lack of devotion towards Lord Mahavir. Tourists and devotees from all over the world come here to bow their heads with faith.

The wishes made from the heart are fulfilled here. Lakhs of tourists come here every year. This Jal Mandir is very famous and worth seeing. In the place of worship of this magnificent and beautiful temple, there is an ancient Charan Paduka of Lord Mahavir. This temple was built by Lord Mahavir's elder brother Raja Nandivardhan. This divine temple made of marble has been renovated from time to time.

The local people here say that at one time this lake was full of red lotus flowers and there used to be countless ducks among the red lotus flowers. People used to experience immense peace by coming here. By the way, right now the red lotus flowers are not blooming here and the number of ducks is very less, which you can see in the video. Yes, but coming here definitely gave an experience of immense peace.

There is a bridge of about 180 meters to go from the shore to the Jal Mandir built in the middle of the lake. One has to reach here by crossing the grand arched entrance made of red sandstone built at the beginning of the bridge towards the north. The architecture and artwork of this Jal Mandir is incomparable. Its beauty is worth seeing. People who do not believe in religion also come here to see the attraction and divinity of this temple.
