ओरछा मध्य प्रदेश का एक प्रमुख धार्मिक स्थान है। यह हमेशा से पर्यटकों के केंद्र में रहा है। यहां स्थित भगवान श्रीराम का मंदिर पूरे देश में एकमात्र ऐसा मंदिर है, जहां वे भगवान के रूप में नहीं, बल्कि एक राजा के रूप में पूजे जाते हैं।

यह एक पवित्र हिंदू तीर्थस्थल है और यहां नियमित रूप से बड़ी संख्या में श्रद्धालु आते हैं इसे आमतौर पर ओरछा मंदिर के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। वार्षिक घरेलू पर्यटक संख्या लगभग 650,000 है और विदेशी पर्यटक संख्या लगभग 25,000 है। मंदिर में दैनिक आगंतुकों की संख्या 1500 से 3000 तक होती है और कुछ महत्वपूर्ण हिंदू त्योहारों जैसे मकर संक्रांति , वसंत पंचमी , शिवरात्रि , राम नवमी , कार्तिक पूर्णिमा और विवाह पंचमी पर ओरछा में आने वाले भक्तों की संख्या हजारों में होती है।   

भारत में यह एकमात्र मंदिर है जहां भगवान राम की पूजा एक राजा के रूप में की जाती है और वह भी एक महल में। हर दिन गार्ड ऑफ ऑनर आयोजित किया जाता है। मंदिर में देवता को प्रदान किया जाने वाला भोजन और अन्य सुविधाएं एक शाही भोजन हैं। प्रतिदिन भगवान राम को सशस्त्र सलामी दी जाती है।

मंदिर में राजा राम के साथ सीता (बाईं ओर), भाई लक्ष्मण (दाहिनी ओर), महाराज सुग्रीव और नरसिंह भगवान (दाहिनी ओर) हैं। दाहिनी ओर दरबार में दुर्गा माँ भी विराजमान हैं । सीता के ठीक नीचे हनुमान जी और जाम्बवान जी प्रार्थना कर रहे हैं । इस मंदिर की खासियत यह है कि भगवान राम के दाहिने हाथ में तलवार और दूसरे हाथ में ढाल है। श्री राम बायां पैर दाहिनी जंघा पर चढ़ाकर पद्मासन में बैठे हैं।             

यहां भगवान श्रीराम की स्थापना के पीछे की एक बहुत मजेदार कहानी है। कहानी के अनुसार तात्कालीन समय में ओरछा के राजा मधुकर शाह भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के भक्त थे, जबकि उनकी पत्नी गणोशकुंवरी भगवान श्रीराम की उपासना करती थीं। वे हमेशा रानी को भगवान श्रीकृष्ण की उपासना करने को कहा करते थे, लेकिन रानी तो श्रीराम का ही नाम जपते रहती थीं।

एकबार उन्होंने यह मन बना लिया कि वे ओरछा में भगवान श्रीराम की स्थापना करेंगी। इसके लिए उन्होंने अयोध्या जाकर उपासना करने का मन बनाया। एक दिन वे राजा को बिना बताए, अयोध्या के लिए निकल गईं। अयोध्या के लिए प्रस्थान करने से पहले उन्होंने अपने नौकरों को यह आदेश दिया कि वे चतुर्भुज मंदिर का निर्माण करवाएं, जहां भगवान श्रीराम की स्थापना की जाएगी।

अयोध्या पहुंचने के बाद रानी ने राम मंदिर में भगवान श्रीराम के लिए कई दिनों तक उपवास रखा। उनकी इस भक्ति को देखकर भगवान श्रीराम उनके सामने प्रकट हुए। इसके बाद रानी ने उन्हें अपने साथ ओरछा जाने का आग्रह किया। भगवान श्रीराम तैयार हो गए, लेकिन इसके लिए उन्होंने रानी के सामने तीन शर्ते रखीं।

1. भगवान श्रीराम ने कहा कि वे ओरछा बाल रूप में जाएंगे।

2. ओरछा पहुंचने के बाद वहां न कोई राजा होगा और न कोई रानी।

3. उनकी स्थापना पुरुष नक्षत्र में होगी।

रानी ने भगवान श्रीराम की सभी शर्ते मान लीं। रानी जब श्रीराम के बालरूप के साथ ओरछा पहुंचीं, तब राजा ने धूमधाम से उनका स्वागत करने का मन बनाया। लेकिन रानी ने सभी को अस्वीकार कर दिया। इसके बाद वे श्रीराम के बालरूप के साथ महल में गईं। अगले दिन जब उन्होंने भगवान राम को चतुभरुज मंदिर में स्थापित करने का शुभ मुहूर्त बनाया, तब भगवान राम ने कहा कि वे मां का दामन छोड़कर कहीं नहीं जाएंगे।

इसके बाद वे महल से बाहर नहीं गए और उनकी स्थापना वहीं हो गई। इसके बाद से रानी का वही महल मंदिर के रूप में विख्यात हो गया, जो आज राम राजा मंदिर के नाम से विश्व विख्यात है।

Ram Raja Temple, Madhya Pradesh

Orchha is a major religious place in Madhya Pradesh. It has always been at the center of tourists. The temple of Lord Shri Ram located here is the only temple in the entire country, where he is worshiped not as a god, but as a king.

It is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site and is visited by a large number of devotees on a regular basis. It is also commonly known as Orchha Temple. Annual domestic tourist numbers are approximately 650,000 and foreign tourist numbers are approximately 25,000. The number of daily visitors to the temple ranges from 1500 to 3000 and the number of devotees coming to Orchha on some important Hindu festivals like Makar Sankranti, Vasant Panchami, Shivratri, Ram Navami, Kartik Purnima and Vivah Panchami is in thousands.

This is the only temple in India where Lord Rama is worshiped as a king and that too in a palace. Guard of honor is organized every day. The food and other amenities provided to the deity in the temple are a royal meal. Armed salute is given to Lord Rama every day.

In the temple, King Ram is accompanied by Sita (on the left), brother Lakshman (on the right), King Sugriva and Lord Narasimha (on the right). Mother Durga is also present in the court on the right side. Hanuman ji and Jambavan ji are praying just below Sita. The specialty of this temple is that Lord Rama has a sword in his right hand and a shield in the other hand. Shri Ram is sitting in Padmasana with his left leg crossed on his right thigh.

Here is a very interesting story behind the establishment of Lord Shri Ram. According to the story, at that time, King Madhukar Shah of Orchha was a devotee of Lord Shri Krishna, while his wife Ganoshkunwari used to worship Lord Shri Ram. He always used to ask the queen to worship Lord Krishna, but the queen kept chanting the name of Shri Ram only.

Once she made up her mind that she would establish Lord Shri Ram in Orchha. For this he decided to go to Ayodhya and worship. One day she left for Ayodhya without informing the king. Before leaving for Ayodhya, he ordered his servants to build the Chaturbhuj temple, where Lord Shri Ram would be installed.

After reaching Ayodhya, the queen kept a fast for several days for Lord Shri Ram in the Ram temple. Seeing his devotion, Lord Shri Ram appeared before him. After this the queen requested him to go with her to Orchha. Lord Shri Ram agreed, but for this he put three conditions before the queen.

1. Lord Shri Ram said that he will go to Orchha in the form of a child.

2. After reaching Orchha, there will be neither a king nor a queen.

3. He will be established in Purusha Nakshatra.

The queen accepted all the conditions of Lord Shri Ram. When the queen reached Orchha with the child form of Shri Ram, the king decided to welcome her with pomp and show. But the queen rejected everyone. After this she went to the palace with the child form of Shri Ram. The next day when it was the auspicious time to install Lord Rama in the Chatubharuj temple, Lord Rama said that he would not go anywhere leaving his mother's bosom.

After this he did not go out of the palace and he was established there. After this, the same palace of the queen became famous as a temple, which is today world famous by the name of Ram Raja Temple.
