अन्तरराष्ट्रीय आदिवासी दिवस, विश्व में रहने वाले आदिवासी लोगों के मूलभूत अधिकारों जल, जंगल, जमीन को बढ़ावा देने और उनकी सामाजिक, आर्थिक, राजनीतिक और न्यायिक सुरक्षा के लिए प्रत्येक वर्ष 9 अगस्त को मनाया जाता है। विश्व मे आदिवासी समुदाय की जनसंख्या लगभग 37 करोड़ है, जिसमें लगभग 5000 अलग–अलग आदिवासी समुदाय है और इनकी लगभग 7 हजार भाषाएं हैं। आदिवासी समाज के उत्थान और उनकी संस्कृति व सम्मान को बचाने के लिए हर साल 9 अगस्त को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय आदिवासी दिवस (World Tribal Day) के तौर पर मनाया जाता है।

प्रत्येक वर्ष 9 अगस्त को पूरी दुनिया में विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में रहने वाले आदिवासी समुदाय के लोग सामुदायिक कार्यक्रम का आयोजन करते हैं जिसमें अपने सभ्यताओं रीति रिवाज को उत्सव के रूप में मनाते हैं और सामूहिक रूप से खुशियों का इजहार करते हैं आदिवासी समुदाय प्रकृति की पूजा करते हैं इस दिन खुशी के इस खुशी के मौके पर प्रकृति में पाए जाने वाले सभी जीव जंतु पर्वत नदियां नाल खेत सूरज चांद इत्यादि इन सभी की पूजा करते हैं आदिवासी समुदाय मानते हैं की प्रकृति की हर एक वस्तु में जीवन होता है इस दिन आदिवासी समुदाय के लोग अपने खेतों और घरों में एक विशिष्ट प्रकार का झंडा लगाते हैं जिसमें सूरज चांद तारे इत्यादि सभी प्रतीक होते हैं और यह झंडे किसी भी रंग के हो सकते हैं किसी विशेष रंग से बंधे हुए नहीं होते हैं।

भारत समेत विश्व के कई देशों में आदिवासी जाति (World Tribal Day 2021) के लोग रहते हैं। इनका रहन-सहन, खान-पान और रीति-रिवाज और पहनावा आदि बाकी अन्य लोगों से अलग होता है। समाज के मुख्यधारा से कटे होने की वजह से दुनियाभर में आदिवासी लोग आज भी काफी पिछड़े हुए हैं। हालांकि, समाज के मुख्यधारा से जोड़ने और आगे बढ़ाने के लिए देश-दुनिया में तमाम तरह के सरकारी कार्यक्रम और गैर-सरकारी कार्यक्रम चलाए जा रहे हैं। भारत की बात करें तो देश की आजादी में आदिवासी समाज के लोगों का बहुत बड़ा योगदान रहा है। आजादी की लड़ाई में बिरसा मुंडा ने झारखंड और छोटानागपुर क्षेत्र में बड़ी भूमिका निभाई थी।

पहली बार अमरीका में 1994 में आदिवासी दिवस मनाया गया था। इसके बाद से पूरे विश्व में 9 अगस्त को आदिवासी दिवस के तौर पर मनाया जाने लगा। संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने पहली बार 1994 को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय आदिवासी वर्ष घोषित किया था। विश्व के आदिवासी लोगों का अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दिवस पहली बार संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा द्वारा दिसंबर 1994 में घोषित किया गया था, जिसे हर साल विश्व के आदिवासी लोगों (1995-2004) के पहले अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दशक के दौरान मनाया जाता है। 2004 में असेंबली ने "ए डिकैड फ़ॉर एक्शन एंड डिग्निटी" की थीम के साथ, 2005-2015 से एक दूसरे अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दशक की घोषणा की। आदिवासी लोगों पर संयुक्त राष्ट्र के संदेश को फैलाने के लिए विभिन्न देशों के लोगों को दिन के अवलोकन में भाग लेने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया जाता है। गतिविधियों में शैक्षिक मंच और कक्षा की गतिविधियाँ शामिल हो सकती हैं ताकि एक सराहना और आदिवासी लोगों की बेहतर समझ प्राप्त हो सके।

23 दिसंबर 1994 के प्रस्ताव 49/214 द्वारा, संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने निर्णय लिया कि विश्व के आदिवासी लोगों के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दशक के दौरान अंतर्राष्ट्रीय आदिवासी लोगों का अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दिवस हर साल 9 अगस्त को मनाया जाएगा।

अन्तरराष्ट्रीय आदिवासी दिवस 2023 का थीम 

हर साल इस दिन को मनाने की एक विशेष थीम होती है। इस साल की थीम महिलाओं पर केंद्रित है। यह ‘आदिवासी महिलाओं की भूमिका है, जो पैतृक ज्ञान को संरक्षित करने में महत्वपूर्ण हैं जो बड़े पैमाने पर समाज के लिए सहायक हो सकते हैं। आदिवासी महिलाएं अपने क्षेत्रों और प्राकृतिक संसाधनों की रक्षा में भाग ले रही हैं। वे मूल जनजातियों के अधिकारों के लिए भी लड़ते हैं।उनके योगदान के बावजूद, आदिवासी महिलाओं को वह प्रतिनिधित्व नहीं मिलता जिसकी वे हकदार हैं। उन्हें कभी-कभी हिंसा और भेदभाव का शिकार होना पड़ता है। इन सामान्य मुद्दों पर इस वर्ष संयुक्त राष्ट्र की डीईएसए बैठक में चर्चा की जाएगी, जो महामारी की स्थिति को देखते हुए वस्तुतः इस दिन होगी। संयुक्त राष्ट्र के सदस्य देश, आदिवासी लोग, नागरिक समाज के प्रतिनिधि, अन्य संयुक्त राष्ट्र संस्थाएँ और यहाँ तक कि आम जनता भी बैठक में भाग लेगी।

International Tribal Day

International Tribal Day is celebrated every year on 9th August to promote the fundamental rights of indigenous people living in the world to water, forest, land and their social, economic, political and judicial security. The population of tribal community in the world is about 370 million, in which there are about 5000 different tribal communities and they have about 7 thousand languages. Every year 9th August is celebrated as International Tribal Day for the upliftment of tribal society and to save their culture and honour.

Every year on 9th August, people of tribal communities living in different regions all over the world organize community programs in which they celebrate their civilizations, customs as festivals and collectively express happiness. Tribal communities worship nature. On this day of happiness, all the creatures found in nature, animals, mountains, rivers, canals, fields, sun, moon, etc., are worshiped by the tribal community. They believe that there is life in every object of nature. People put a special type of flag in their fields and homes, which have all the symbols like sun, moon, stars, etc. and these flags can be of any color and are not tied to any particular color.

People of tribal caste (World Tribal Day 2021) live in many countries of the world including India. Their way of living, eating habits and customs and dress etc. are different from other people. Due to being cut off from the mainstream of the society, tribal people all over the world are still very backward. However, to connect and move forward with the mainstream of the society, all kinds of government programs and non-government programs are being run in the country and the world. If we talk about India, the people of tribal society have contributed a lot in the independence of the country. Birsa Munda had played a big role in the freedom struggle in Jharkhand and Chhotanagpur region.

For the first time, Tribal Day was celebrated in America in 1994. After this, August 9 was celebrated as Tribal Day all over the world. The United Nations General Assembly first declared 1994 as the International Year of the Indigenous Peoples. The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples was first proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in December 1994, to be observed annually during the first International Decade of the World's Indigenous Peoples (1995–2004). In 2004 the Assembly proclaimed a second International Decade, from 2005–2015, with the theme of "A Decade for Action and Dignity". People from different countries are encouraged to participate in the observation of the day to spread the message of the United Nations on indigenous peoples. Activities may include educational forums and classroom activities to gain an appreciation and better understanding of Aboriginal peoples.

By resolution 49/214 of 23 December 1994, the United Nations General Assembly decided that the International Day of Indigenous Peoples would be observed on 9 August every year during the International Decade of the World's Indigenous Peoples.

Theme of International Tribal Day 2023

Every year there is a special theme to celebrate this day. This year's theme focuses on women. It is the role of 'tribal women, who are important in preserving ancestral knowledge that can be of use to society at large'. Tribal women are participating in protecting their territories and natural resources. They also fight for the rights of the native tribes. Despite their contribution, tribal women do not get the representation they deserve. They are sometimes subjected to violence and discrimination. These general issues will be discussed at the UN's DESA meeting this year, which will take place virtually on this day given the pandemic situation. UN member states, indigenous peoples, representatives of civil society, other UN organizations and even the general public will participate in the meeting.
