 काँच और हीरा की पहचान

एक राजा का दरबार लगा हुआ था, चूँकि कि सर्दी का दिन था इसलिये राजा का दरवार खुले में लगा हुआ था। पूरी आम सभा सुबह की धूप मे बैठी थी। महाराज के सिंहासन के सामने एक शाही मेज थी और उस पर कुछ कीमती चीजें रखी थीं। पंडित लोग, मंत्री और दीवान आदि सभी दरबार में बैठे थे और राजा के परिवार के सदस्य भी बैठे थे। उसी समय एक व्यक्ति आया और उसने कुछ कहने की आज्ञा मांगी, आज्ञा मिल गयी। 

तो उसने कहा - "मेरे पास दो वस्तुएं हैं। मैं हर राज्य के राजा के पास जाता हूँ और अपनी वस्तुओं को रखता हूँ, पर कोई परख नही पाता सब हार जाते है और मै विजेता बनकर घूम रहा हूँ। अब आपके नगर में आया हूँ।" राजा ने बुलाया और कहा - "क्या वस्तु है? तो उसने दोनो वस्तुएं उस कीमती मेज पर रख दीं और कहा कि वे दोनों वस्तुएं बिल्कुल समान आकार, समान रुप रंग, समान प्रकाश सब कुछ नख-शिख समान है।"

राजा ने कहा - "ये दोनो वस्तुएं तो एक हैं।"

तो उस व्यक्ति ने कहा - "हाँ दिखाई तो एक सी ही देती हैं, लेकिन हैं भिन्न। इनमें से एक है बहुत कीमती हीरा और एक है काँच का टुकडा। लेकिन रूप रंग सब एक है। कोई आज तक परख नहीं पाया क़ि कौन सा हीरा है और कौन सा काँच का टुकड़ा? कोइ परख कर बताये की कौन हीरा है और कौन काँच? अगर परख खरी निकली तो मैं हार जाऊंगा और यह कीमती हीरा मैं आपके राज्य की तिजोरी मे जमा करवा दूंगा।"

पर शर्त यह है क़ि यदि कोई नहीं पहचान पाया तो इस हीरे की जो कीमत है उतनी धनराशि आपको मुझे देनी होंगी। इसी प्रकार से मैं कई राज्यों से जीतता आया हूँ। राजा ने कहा मैं तो नहीं परख सकूंगा। दीवान बोले हम भी हिम्मत नहीं कर सकते। क्योंकि दोनों बिल्कुल समान है। सब हारे कोई हिम्मत नहीं जुटा पा रहा था। हारने पर राजा की प्रतिष्ठा गिर जायेगी, इसका सबको भय था।

कोई व्यक्ति पहचान नहीं पाया। आखिरकार पीछे थोडी हलचल हुई। एक अंधा आदमी हाथ मे लाठी लेकर उठा उसने कहा मुझे महाराज के पास ले चलो। मैंने सब बातें सुनी है और यह भी सुना है कि कोई परख नहीं पा रहा है एक अवसर मुझे भी दो। 

एक आदमी के सहारे वह राजा के पास पहुंचा। उसने राजा से प्रार्थना की मैं तो जनम से अंधा हूँ। फिर भी मुझे एक अवसर दिया जाये, जिससे मैं भी एक बार अपनी बुद्धि को परखूँ और हो सकता है कि सफल भी हो जाऊं और यदि सफल न भी हुआ तो वैसे भी आप तो हारे ही हैं।

राजा को लगा कि इसे अवसर देने में क्या हर्ज है? राजा ने कहा क़ि ठीक है तो तब उस अंधे आदमी को दोनों चीजे हाथ में दी गयी और पूछा गया इसमें कौन सा हीरा है और कौन सा काँच? यही तुम्हें परखना है।

हाथ में आते ही उस आदमी ने एक क्षण में कह दिया कि यह हीरा है और यह काँच। जो आदमी इतने राज्यों को जीतकर आया था , वह नतमस्तक हो गया और बोला - "सही है! आपने पहचान लिया। धन्य हो आप। अब अपने वचन के मुताबिक यह हीरा मैं आपके राज्य की तिजोरी में दे रहा हूँ। 

सब बहुत खुश हो गये और जो आदमी आया था वह भी बहुत प्रसन्न हुआ कि कम से कम कोई तो मिला परखने वाला। उस आदमी, राजा और अन्य सभी लोगों ने उस अंधे व्यक्ति से एक ही जिज्ञासा जताई कि तुमने यह कैसेपहचाना कि यह हीरा है और वह काँच?

उस अंधे ने कहा - "सीधी सी बात है मालिक धूप में हम सब बैठे हैं, मैंने दोनों को छुआ जो ठंडा रहा वह हीरा और जो गरम हो गया वह काँच।"

"जीवन में जो बात - बात मे गरम हो जाये, उलझ जाये वह व्यक्ति "काँच" है और जो विपरीत परिस्थिति में भी ठंडा रहे वह व्यक्ति "हीरा" है!"

English Translate

Identification of Glass and Diamond

A king's court was set up, since it was a winter day, that's why the king's court was set up in the open. The whole general assembly was sitting in the morning sun. There was a royal table in front of the Maharaja's throne and some valuable things were kept on it. Pundits, Ministers and Diwan etc. were all sitting in the court and the family members of the king were also sitting. At the same time a person came and asked permission to say something, permission was granted.

So he said - "I have two things. I go to the king of every state and keep my things, but no one can test them, everyone loses and I am roaming around as a winner. Now I have come to your city. " The king called and said - "What is the object? So he put both the objects on that precious table and said that both those objects are exactly the same size, same color, same light, everything is like a fingernail."

The king said - "These two things are one."

So that person said - "Yes, they look the same, but they are different. One of them is a very precious diamond and the other is a piece of glass. But the color is all the same. Till date no one has been able to distinguish which one. Which is a diamond and which is a piece of glass? Someone test and tell which is diamond and which is glass? If the test turns out to be true, I will lose and I will get this precious diamond deposited in the vault of your kingdom.

But the condition is that if no one can identify it, then you will have to pay me the amount of this diamond. This is how I have been winning from many states. The king said, I will not be able to test. Diwan said, we too cannot dare. Because both are exactly the same. Everyone lost, no one was able to gather courage. Everyone feared that the king's prestige would fall if he was defeated.

No person identified. At last there was some commotion behind. A blind man got up with a stick in his hand and said take me to Maharaj. I have heard all the things and have also heard that no one is able to test, give me a chance too.

He reached the king with the help of a man. He prayed to the king, I am blind by birth. Even then I should be given an opportunity, so that I can test my intelligence once and maybe I will be successful and even if I don't succeed, you are a loser anyway.

The king felt that what is the harm in giving it an opportunity? The king said that it is okay, then the blind man was given both the things in his hand and was asked which is the diamond and which is the glass? This is what you have to test.

As soon as it came in hand, that man said in a moment that this is diamond and this is glass. The man who had come after conquering so many kingdoms, bowed down and said - "Right! You have recognized. You are blessed. Now according to my promise, I am giving this diamond in the vault of your kingdom."

Everyone became very happy and the person who had come was also very happy that at least he found someone to judge him. The man, the king and all the other people expressed the same curiosity to the blind man that how did you recognize that it was a diamond and that glass?

That blind man said - "It's a simple thing, Lord, we are all sitting in the sun, I touched both, the diamond which remained cold and the glass which became hot."

"The person who gets heated up in every thing in life, gets entangled is a "glass" and the person who remains cool even in adverse circumstances is a "diamond"!"
