जैसा कि हम सभी जानते हैं, सिक्किम भारत के सबसे छोटे राज्यों में से एक है, जो कि भारत के पूर्वी हिमालय क्षेत्र में स्थित है। सिक्किम अंतरराष्ट्रीय सीमाओं से लगा हुआ राज्य है, जो उत्तर पूर्व में तिब्बत, दक्षिण पूर्व में भूटान और पश्चिम में नेपाल से लगती है। इस ब्लॉग के पिछले कुछ अंकों में अलग अलग राज्य के राजकीय पक्षियों की चर्चा हुई है। आज हम सिक्किम के राजकीय पक्षी के बारे में जानेंगे। 

हर राज्यों की तरह सिक्किम द्वारा भी राज्य का राजकीय पक्षी चुना गया है, जो देखने में बेहद सुंदर है और अपने कुल की एकमात्र प्रजाति है, जिसका नाम है ‘चिल्मिआ’। ‘चिल्मिआ’ को अंग्रेजी में या ‘ब्लड फिजेंट’ (Blood Pheasant) कहा जाता है। इसे एक अन्य नाम ‘Blood Partridge’ के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। इसका वैज्ञानिक नाम इथेजिनिस क्रुएंट्स (Ithaginis Cruentus) है। 

फिजेंट कुल का यह पक्षी अपनी प्रजाति का एकमात्र पक्षी है। इसका नेपाली भाषा में नाम चिल्मिआ, चिल्मे, स्क्रीमन तथा सेलमुंग है। सिक्किम में यह समे, सेमो और सूमोंग फ़ो कहा जाता है। इसका कोई हिंदी नाम नहीं है, क्योंकि यह हिंदी भाषी क्षेत्रों में नहीं पाया जाता। अंग्रेजी भाषा में इसके नाम ‘ब्लड फिजेंट‘ का कारण इसकी आँखों के चारों ओर सुर्ख लाल रंग की चौड़ी पट्टी का होना है। 

इसका आकार 19 सेंटीमीटर से 22 सेंटीमीटर और वजन 500 ग्राम से 650 ग्राम होता है। यह दिखने में मध्यम आकार के जंगली मुर्ग जैसा दिखता है।

‘चिल्मिआ’ के पंखों में कई रंग देखने को मिलते हैं, जैसे सफ़ेद, स्लेटी, भूरा और लाल। मादा ‘चिल्मिआ’ एक समान रंग की होती है, जिसमें अधिकतर भूरा रंग देखने को मिलता है। इनके सिर पर विभिन्न रंगों के पंखों की एक छोटी कलगी होती है। आँखों के आसपास नग्न त्वचा की लाल रंग की रिंग होती हैं। कुछ प्रजातियों में यह नारंगी रंग की होती है। चोच का रंग काला होता है, जो काफ़ी मजबूत होता है। मादा और नर दोनों के पैर लाल रंग के होते हैं। यह देखने पर थोड़ा बहुत तीतर से मिलता जुलता है। ब्लड फ़ीज़ॅन्ट पेड़ों के कोंपल, फल, बीज और कीड़े मकोड़े खाता है।

As we all know, Sikkim is one of the smallest states in India, located in the Eastern Himalayan region of India. Sikkim is a state with international borders, bordered by Tibet in the northeast, Bhutan in the southeast, and Nepal in the west. In the last few issues of this blog, the state birds of different states have been discussed. Today we will learn about the state bird of Sikkim.

Like every state, Sikkim has also chosen the state bird of the state, which is very beautiful to look at and is the only species of its family, named 'Chilmiya'. 'Chilmiya' is called in English or 'Blood Pheasant'. It is also known by another name 'Blood Partridge'. Its scientific name is Ithaginis cruentus.

This bird of pheasant clan is the only bird of its species. Its name in Nepali language is Chilmiya, Chilme, Skriman and Selmung. In Sikkim it is called Same, Semo and Sumong Pho. It does not have a Hindi name, as it is not found in Hindi speaking areas. The reason for its name 'blood pheasant' in English language is due to the wide strip of ruddy red color around its eyes.

Its size is 19 cm to 22 cm and weight is 500 grams to 650 grams. It looks like a medium sized wild fowl.

Many colors are seen in the feathers of 'Chilmiya', such as white, gray, brown and red. The female 'Chilmiya' is of uniform colour, in which mostly brown color is seen. There is a small crest of feathers of different colors on their heads. There are red colored rings of naked skin around the eyes. In some species it is orange in colour. The color of the beak is black, which is very strong. The legs of both the female and the male are red. It looks a bit like a pheasant. The blood pheasant eats tree shoots, fruits, seeds and insects.
