उनाकोटी  (99 लाख 99 हजार 999 मूर्तियां)

दुनिया जाने कितने रहस्यों से भरी पड़ी है। जाने कितनी उलझी हुई गुत्थियाँ हैं जो सुलझ नहीं पाई हैं। ऐसा नहीं है कि इन्हें सुलझाने की कोशिश नहीं की गई। दरअसल वैज्ञानिक और शोधकर्ता जितनी बार इन गुत्थियों को समझने की कोशिश करते हैं, वह उतना ही और उलझ जाते हैं। आज की पोस्ट एक ऐसे ही रहस्यमई जगह की। 

भारत देश के सुदूर उत्तर पूर्व में त्रिपुरा शहर, जो बेहद हरा-भरा और खूबसूरत है। इसी हरियाली के बीच बसा है एक ऐसा रहस्य जिससे बहुत कम लोग वाकिफ हैं। त्रिपुरा की राजधानी अगरतला से करीब 178 किलोमीटर दूर घने जंगलों के बीच मूर्तियों का एक पूरा शहर बसा हुआ है। दूर-दूर तक घने जंगलों और दलदली इलाकों के बीच पत्थरों पर उकेरे गए शैल चित्र तथा मूर्तियों का विशाल संग्रह है। कहीं 30 फुट ऊंची शिव की प्रतिमा है, तो कहीं चारभुजा वाले भगवान गणेश। कहीं मां दुर्गा नजर आती हैं, तो कहीं नंदी। लोगों की माने तो यहां कुल 99लाख 99हजार 999 मूर्तियां है, इसी वजह से इस जगह का नाम उनाकोटी पड़ गया (जहां कोटि का मतलब करोड़ और उना का मतलब होता है एक कम)।

कहते हैं कि इन रहस्यों को आज तक कोई भी सुलझा नहीं पाया है कि नदियों और दलदल से घिरे इस वीरान जंगल में यह मूर्तियां किसने बनाई? कब बनाई? और क्यों बनाई? उससे भी जरूरी कि यह एक करोड़ में एक कम ही क्यों है? आखिर किसने बसाया देवी-देवताओं का यह रहस्यमई शहर? पत्थरों को काटकर मूर्तियां उकेरने में बहुत वक्त लगता है, तो वह कौन था जिसने इतनी बड़ी-बड़ी मूर्तियां इन पहाड़ों पर उकेरी? यही सब सवाल है जो इस जगह को देश की सबसे रहस्यमई जगहों में से एक बना रखा है। 

वैसे तो स्थानीय लोगों के अनुसार इस जगह को लेकर दो कहानियां प्रचलित हैं।

पहली कहानी के मुताबिक भगवान शिव एक करोड़ देवी देवताओं के साथ इस इलाके से गुजर रहे थे। रात हो जाने की वजह से बाकी देवी-देवताओं ने शिवजी से उनाकोटी में रुककर विश्राम करने को कहा। शिवजी मान गए, लेकिन साथ ही उन्होंने ये भी कहा कि सूर्योदय से पहले ही सभी को यह स्थान छोड़ देना होगा, लेकिन सूर्योदय के वक्त केवल भगवान शिव ही जग पाए, बाकी सारे देवी-देवता सो रहे थे. यह देखकर भगवान शिव क्रोधित हो गए और श्राप देकर सभी को पत्थर बना दिया। इसी वजह से यहां 99 लाख 99 हजार 999 मूर्तियां हैं, यानी एक करोड़ से एक कम। 

एक दूसरी कहानी भी है जिसके मुताबिक कालू नाम के एक शिल्पकार थे जो इसी इलाके में रहते थे। कालू भगवान शिव के परम भक्त थे। अपनी भक्ति से वह भगवान शिव और माता पार्वती को खुश कर उनके साथ कैलाश पर्वत पर जाना चाहते थे, किंतु पृथ्वी लोक से किसी भी मनुष्य के लिए यह संभव नहीं होने के कारण भगवान शिव ने उन्हें मना कर दिया, लेकिन कालू अपनी जिद पर अड़े रहे। कालू की ज़िद को देखते हुए भगवान शिव ने एक शर्त रखी। शर्त के मुताबिक उन्हें एक रात में एक करोड़ (एक कोटी) मूर्तियों का निर्माण करना था। 

अगर वो शर्त पूरी कर लेते तो भगवान शिव और पार्वती के साथ कैलाश पर जा सकते हैे। यह बात सुनकर शिल्पकार कालू जी-जान से अपने काम में लग गये। उन्होंने पूरी लगन और मेहनत से पूरी रात मूर्तियों का निर्माण किया। लेकिन सुबह होने पर जब गिनती हुई तो पता चला कि वहां 99 लाख 99 हजार 999 मूर्तियां ही बनी हैं, यानि एक करोड़ से एक कम। शर्त के मुताबिक शिल्पकार कालू भगवान शिव और पार्वती के साथ कैलाश पर्वत तो नहीं जा पाये, लेकिन उनकी मेहनत आज भी इन पहाड़ों में मौजूद है। 

इन कहानियों की वास्तविकता के बारे में तो पता नहीं, परंतु उनाकोटी की मूर्तियों को वर्ल्ड हेरिटेज टैग दिलाने का प्रयास किया जा रहा है। इसे विश्व धरोहर घोषित कराने का प्रयास हो रहा है। यह मूर्तियां त्रिपुरा के रघुनंदन हिल्स पर स्थित एक पहाड़ पर उकेरी गई हैं। विश्व धरोहर घोषित कराने के लिए आर्कियोलॉजिकल सर्वे ऑफ इंडिया एएसआई(ASI) और सरकार दोनों ही प्रयास कर रहे हैं। इतिहासकार पन्नालाल राय के अनुसार यह पत्थर की मूर्तियां बेहद दुर्लभ हैं। यह उन मूर्तियों की तरह हैं, जो कंबोडिया के अंगोर वाट में बनी हैं। 

पन्नालाल इन मूर्तियों का अध्ययन कई वर्षों से कर रहे हैं। कई मूर्तियां खराब मौसम और प्रदूषण की वजह से खराब हो गई हैं तथा कई स्थानों पर मूर्तियों के ऊपर से झरने बहते हैं। जबसे इस स्थान का संरक्षण एएसआई (ASI ) ने लिया है, तब से यहां के हालात कुछ बेहतर हुए हैं। पुरातत्व विद लगातार यहां पर खनन का काम कर रहे हैं, ताकि अन्य मूर्तियों की भी खोज की जा सके। केंद्र सरकार द्वारा इस स्थान के संरक्षण और पर्यटन विकास के लिए ₹12 करोड़ दिए गए थे। लोग यहां पर्यटन और पूजा अर्चना के लिए जाते हैं। 

मूर्तियों के पास किसी को जाने की अनुमति नहीं है। त्रिपुरा सरकार इन मूर्तियों के आसपास पर्यटन स्थल बना रही है। सरकार का मानना है कि यह उत्तर पूर्व के प्राकृतिक सांस्कृतिक धरोहर और खदानों में से एक है। यहां दो तरह की मूर्तियां हैं - पहली पहाड़ों पर उकेरी गई मूर्तियां और दूसरी पत्थरों को काटकर बनाई गई मूर्तियां। सबसे प्रसिद्ध मूर्ति भगवान शिव का सिर और विशालकाय गणेश की मूर्ति है। भगवान शिव की मूर्ति को उनाकोटी स्वर्ण काल भैरव बुलाया जाता है। यह करीब 30 फीट ऊंची है। भोलेनाथ के सिर के ऊपर की सजावट ही 10 फीट ऊंची है। भगवान शिव की मूर्ति के पास ही नंदी बैल की तीन मूर्तियां मिली हैं, जो जमीन में आधी धसी हैं।

अप्रैल में यहां पर अशोका अष्टमी का मेला लगता है जिसमें हजारों की संख्या में श्रद्धालु और पर्यटक आते हैं। पन्नालाल रॉय के मुताबिक बंगाल के पाला साम्राज्य के समय उनाकोटी भगवान शिव को मानने वाले लोगों के लिए मुख्य धार्मिक स्थान था इसलिए यह संभावना भी है कि उस स्थान पर उस समय पर वहां बौद्ध धर्म का भी बोलबाला रहा होगा।

It is said that till date no one has been able to solve these mysteries that who made these idols in this deserted forest surrounded by rivers and marshes? When was it made? And why was it made? More important than that why is it less than one in a crore? After all, who built this mysterious city of deities? It takes a lot of time to cut stones and carve idols, so who was it that carved such huge idols on these mountains? These are the questions that have kept this place one of the most mysterious places in the country.

By the way, according to the local people, two stories are prevalent about this place.

According to the first story, Lord Shiva was passing through this area with one crore deities. Due to the night, the rest of the gods and goddesses asked Lord Shiva to stop at Unakoti and take rest. Shivji agreed, but at the same time he also said that everyone would have to leave this place before sunrise, but at the time of sunrise only Lord Shiva could wake up, all the other gods and goddesses were sleeping. Seeing this, Lord Shiva got angry and cursed everyone to turn them into stone. For this reason, there are 99 lakh 99 thousand 999 idols here, that is, one less than one crore.

There is also another story according to which there was a craftsman named Kalu who lived in the same area. Kalu was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. With his devotion, he wanted to please Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati and go to Mount Kailash with them, but because it is not possible for any human being from the earth, Lord Shiva refused him, but Kalu was adamant. are. Seeing the stubbornness of Kalu, Lord Shiva put a condition. According to the condition, he had to build one crore (one crore) idols in one night.

If he fulfills the condition, he can go to Kailash with Lord Shiva and Parvati. Hearing this, the craftsman Kalu got busy with his work. He made the idols whole night with great dedication and hard work. But when the count was done in the morning, it was found that only 99 lakh 99 thousand 999 idols were made there, that means one less than one crore. According to the condition, the craftsman Kalu could not go to Mount Kailash with Lord Shiva and Parvati, but his hard work is still present in these mountains.

The reality of these stories is not known, but efforts are being made to get the Unakoti idols a World Heritage tag. Efforts are being made to declare it as a World Heritage Site. These sculptures are carved on a mountain located on the Raghunandan Hills of Tripura. Both the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the government are making efforts to declare it as a World Heritage Site. According to historian Pannalal Rai, these stone sculptures are extremely rare. These are like those idols, which are made in Angor Wat in Cambodia.

Pannalal has been studying these sculptures for many years. Many of the idols have deteriorated due to bad weather and pollution and at many places springs flow over the idols. Ever since the protection of this place has been taken by the ASI, since then the situation here has improved a bit. Archaeologists are continuously doing mining work here, so that other idols can also be discovered. ₹12 crore was given by the Central Government for the conservation and tourism development of this place. People go here for tourism and worship.

No one is allowed near the idols. The Tripura government is building a tourist spot around these idols. The government believes that it is one of the natural cultural heritage and mines of the North East. There are two types of sculptures here - the first sculptures carved on the mountains and the second sculptures made by cutting stones. The most famous idol is the head of Lord Shiva and the giant Ganesha idol. The idol of Lord Shiva is called Unakoti Swarna Kaal Bhairav. It is about 30 feet high. The decoration above the head of Bholenath itself is 10 feet high. Three idols of Nandi bull have been found near the idol of Lord Shiva, which are half buried in the ground.

In April, there is a fair of Ashoka Ashtami, in which thousands of devotees and tourists come. According to Pannalal Roy, during the time of the Pala Empire of Bengal, Unakoti was the main religious place for the people who believed in Lord Shiva, so it is also possible that Buddhism would have dominated there at that time.
