स्थानेश्वर मंदिर, हरियाणा 

श्री स्थानेश्वर मंदिर व श्री स्थाणु मंदिर हरियाणा के जिला कुरुक्षेत्र के थानेसर में स्थित है। स्थानेश्वर मंदिर प्राचीनतम मंदिरों में से एक है एवं भगवान शिव को समर्पित है। स्थानेश्वर मंदिर की बड़ी महत्ता है और कुरूक्षेत्र का प्रसिद्ध एवं पवित्र केंद्र है। ऐसी मान्यता भी है कि भगवान शिव की पूजा शिवलिंग के रुप में पहली बार इसी स्थान पर हुई थी। कुरुक्षेत्र की तीर्थ यात्रा इस मंदिर की यात्रा के बिना पूरी नहीं मानी जाती है। इसलिए कुरुक्षेत्र तीर्थ धाम की यात्रा जो व्यक्ति करता है वह इस स्थान पर आकर भगवान शिव के दर्शन जरूर करता है और अपनी तीर्थ यात्रा को सफल बनाता है।

इतिहास एवं मान्यताएं

कहा जाता है कि महाभारत का विनाशकारी युद्ध आरंभ होने से पहले पांडवों ने कृष्ण के साथ इसी स्थान पर भगवान शिव की पूजा की थी। भगवान शिव ने उन्हें दर्शन देकर मनोकामना पूर्ण होने का आशीर्वाद भी दिया था। पुनः सिख समुदाय के नौवें गुरु श्री तेग बहादुर स्थानेश्वर मंदिर तीर्थ के पास एक बिंदु पर रुके थे। इस मंदिर के समीप उनकी याद में गुरुद्वारा नवीं पातशाही भी बना हुआ है। भारतीय इतिहास के अनुसार, यह स्थान पुष्यभूति राजवंश के महान भारतीय सम्राट हर्षवर्धन की राजधानी थी, हालांकि इस तथ्य का कोई उचित प्रमाण नहीं है। लेकिन यह कहा जाता है कि इस मंदिर का निर्माण महाभारत काल में हुआ था। कुछ अन्य मान्यताओं के अनुसार, भगवान शिव का 'लिंग' के रूप में प्रथम बार पूजा यहीं पर हुई थी। महान योद्धा एवं ऋषि परशुराम ने यहां कई क्षत्रियों को मार डाला था और महाभारत नायकों के पूर्वज कुरु ने यमुना नदी के तट पर कई वर्ष तक तपस्या की थी।

स्थापत्य एवं उत्सव

मंदिर की छत गुंबद के आकार की है एवं छत पर आज भी प्राचीन कलाकृतियां विद्यमान हैं।इस मंदिर में भगवान शिव का शिवलिंग अति प्राचीन शिवलिंग है। यह मंदिर दो भागों में विभाजित है बायीं ओर भगवान श्री लक्ष्मी नारायण जी का मंदिर है और दायीं ओर भगवान शिव का मंदिर है। इस मंदिर में भगवान हनुमान, भैरव, राम परिवार और माता दुर्गा जी की मूर्ति स्थापित है।

मंदिर परिसर में एक सरोवर भी है। जिसके बारे में पौराणिक संदर्भ अनुसार यह माना जाता है कि इसकी कुछ बूंदों से राजा बान का कुष्ठ रोग ठीक हो गया था। यमुना नदी के किनारे बसे इस शिवमंदिर के लिए कहा जाता है कि मंदिर के पीछे यमुना का पानी मंदिर के टैंक से होता हुआ मंदिर के बाहर निकलता है जिसकी एक बूंद से सारे रोग का निवारण हो जाता है। 

वैसे तो स्थानेश्वर मंदिर में सभी त्योहार मनाए जाते हैं। विशेषकर महाशिवरात्रि के त्यौहार पर विशेष पूजा का आयोजन किया जाता है। इस दिन मंदिर को फूलों एवं दीपमालिकाओं से सजाया जाता है। मंदिर का आध्यात्मिक वातावरण श्रद्धालुओं के दिल और दिमाग को शांति प्रदान करता है। इस प्राचीन मंदिर के लिए कहा जाता है कि स्वयं भगवान शिव यहां वास करते हैं और महाशिवरात्रि की रात को तांडव करते हैं।

Shri Sthaneshwar Temple and Shri Sthanu Temple are located in Thanesar, District Kurukshetra, Haryana. Sthaneshwar Temple is one of the oldest temples and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Sthaneshwar Temple is of great importance and is the famous and sacred center of Kurukshetra. There is also a belief that Lord Shiva was worshiped at this place for the first time in the form of Shivling. A pilgrimage to Kurukshetra is not considered complete without a visit to this temple. Therefore, the person who visits the Kurukshetra shrine must come to this place and see Lord Shiva and make his pilgrimage successful.

History and beliefs

It is said that the Pandavas along with Krishna worshiped Lord Shiva at this place before the devastating war of Mahabharata began. Lord Shiva had also blessed him to fulfill his wish by giving a darshan. Again the ninth Guru of the Sikh community, Shri Tegh Bahadur stayed at a point near the Sthaneshwar temple shrine. Gurudwara Navin Patshahi is also built in his memory near this temple. According to Indian history, this place was the capital of the great Indian emperor Harshavardhana of the Pushyabhuti dynasty, although there is no proper proof of this fact. But it is said that this temple was constructed during the Mahabharata period. According to some other beliefs, Lord Shiva was worshiped here for the first time in the form of 'Linga'. The great warrior and sage Parashurama had killed many Kshatriyas here and Kuru, the ancestor of the Mahabharata heroes, meditated for many years on the banks of the river Yamuna.

Architecture and Festivals

The roof of the temple is in the shape of a dome and ancient artifacts are still present on the roof. The Shivling of Lord Shiva in this temple is a very ancient Shivling. This temple is divided into two parts, on the left is the temple of Lord Shri Lakshmi Narayan Ji and on the right is the temple of Lord Shiva. The idols of Lord Hanuman, Bhairav, Ram family and Mother Durga are installed in this temple.

There is also a lake in the temple premises. According to mythological references about which it is believed that King Ban's leprosy was cured by a few drops of it. It is said for this Shiva temple situated on the banks of river Yamuna that the water of Yamuna comes out of the temple through the temple tank behind the temple, a drop of which cures all diseases.

By the way, all the festivals are celebrated in the Sthaneshwar temple. Special puja is organized especially on the festival of Mahashivratri. On this day the temple is decorated with flowers and lamps. The spiritual atmosphere of the temple provides peace to the hearts and minds of the devotees. It is said for this ancient temple that Lord Shiva himself resides here and performs Tandava on the night of Mahashivratri.
