सत्य का प्रभाव

एक बार बोधिसत्व का जन्म ब्रह्मदत्त के राज्य काल में बनारस में एक बहुत धनी व्यापारी के घर हुआ। व्यापारी के दो और भी पुत्र थेे। एक दिन अवकाश का लाभ उठाकर वे तीनों नगर के प्रसिद्ध सरोवर में कमल पुष्प लेने गए।

सरोवर का रक्षक नकटा था। कमल उसी से प्राप्त करने होते थे। सबसे बड़े भाई ने नकटे के पास जाकर उसे प्रसन्न करने के उद्देश्य से उससे कहा, "बार बार कट छट कर भी मूंछ और दाढ़ी फिर उग आती हैं। तुम्हारी नाक भी इसी भांति फिर से आएगी। कृपया हमें एक कमल पुष्प प्रदान कीजिए।"

उसकी बात सुनकर नकटा बहुत बिगड़ा और उसको कमल पुष्प देने से इनकार कर दिया।

इसके पश्चात दूसरे भाई ने भी अपनी बात उससे कहीं और कमल प्राप्त करने का प्रयत्न किया।

दूसरे ने कहा, "हेमंत में बीज बोए जाते हैं, जो बहुत दिनों बाद अंकुरित होते हैं। भगवान करे तुम्हारी नाक भी इसी प्रकार उग आवे। कृपया हमें एक कमल पुष्प प्रदान कर दीजिए।"

परंतु नकटे ने उसे भी मना कर दिया। 

इसके पश्चात बोधिसत्व ने उसके निकट जाकर कहा, "वह मूर्ख हैं, जो समझते हैं कि कमल इस प्रकार प्राप्त हो जाएगा। कोई चाहे कुछ भी कहे, परंतु कटी हुई नाक फिर से नहीं आती है। देखिए मैं आपसे सच्ची बात कहता हूं। कृपया मुझे केवल एक कमल दे दीजिए।"

 नकटे पर बोधिसत्व के सत्य का प्रभाव पड़ा। उसने कहा भाई तुम मुझे सच्चे मालूम होते हो, परंतु तुम्हारे दोनों भाई तो बिल्कुल भी बिगड़े हुए हैं। कमल पुष्प की प्राप्ति के लिए झूठ का सहारा ले रहे हैं। ऐसा कह कर उसने नीलकमलों का एक बड़ा गुच्छा बोधिसत्व के हाथ पर रख दिया।

Effect of Truth

Once a Bodhisattva was born in the house of a very wealthy merchant in Banaras during the reign of Brahmadatta. The merchant had two other sons. One day, taking advantage of the holiday, all three of them went to the famous lake of the city to collect lotus flowers.

The protector of the lake was Nakata. The lotus was to be obtained from him. The eldest brother went to Nakte to please him and said to him, "Mustache and beard grow again even after being cut again and again. Your nose will also come back in the same way. Please give us a lotus flower."

Hearing this, Nakta was very upset and refused to give him a lotus flower.

After this the other brother also tried to get lotus from him elsewhere.

Another said, "Seeds are sown in Hemant, which germinate after many days. May your nose grow like this. Please give us a lotus flower."

But Nakte refused him too.

After this the Bodhisattva approached him and said, "He is a fool who thinks that the lotus will be obtained in this way. No matter what one says, but the severed nose does not come again. Look, I tell you the truth. Please. Give me only one lotus."

 Nakte was influenced by the Bodhisattva's truth. He said brother, you seem to be true to me, but both your brothers are spoiled at all. They are resorting to lies to get the lotus flower. Having said this, he placed a large bunch of blue lotus flowers on the bodhisattva's hand.
