इल्हा दे क्वेइमाडा ग्रैंड ब्राजील (Ilha de Queimada Grande, Brazil)

 इस द्वीप पर 4000 सांपों की अलग-अलग प्रजाति पाई जाती है, जिनकी गिनती विश्व के सबसे जहरीले सांपों में की जाती है। ये सांप अगर किसी को काट ले तो 10 से 15 मिनट के अंदर में उसकी मौत हो जाती है। ब्राजील में अधिकतर 90% लोगों की मौत सांपों के काटने से होती है।

जीव वैज्ञानिक इस बात को मानते हैं कि गोल्डन लांसहेड (golden lanceheads)सांपों की सबसे जहरीली प्रजाति होती है, इसलिए ब्राजीलियन नेवी ने इस आईलैंड पर किसी को भी जाने से मना किया है। यहां केवल सांप से जुड़े विशेषज्ञों को ही शोध के लिए जाने की अनुमति है।

स्थानीय लोगों के अनुसार यह आईलैंड शुरू से ऐसा नहीं था। इस आईलैंड पर सांप पहले बहुत कम पाए जाते थे।इल्हा दे क्वेइमाडा ग्रैंड आइलैंड के तट के पास एक लाइट हाउस बना हुआ है, जो कि ब्राजील नौसेना के द्वारा 1909 में बनाया गया था। इस लाइट हाउस में नौसेना का कर्मचारी काम किया करता था। इस आइलैंड में वह कर्मचारी पत्नी और 3 बच्चों के साथ इस लाइट हाउस में रहते थे।
