कबूतर और कौवा 

 प्राचीन भारत में कई बार लोग पक्षियों के आवागमन के लिए घर के आस-पास दानों से भरकर टोकरिया लटका रखते थे। राजा के कोषाध्यक्ष के रसोइयों ने भी ऐसा कर रखा था। उन्हीं टोकरीयों में से एक में एक कबूतर ने डेरा जमा रखा था। वह शाम ढलते ही वापस आ जाता था और रात भर उसी टोकरी में रहता था।

एक दिन एक कौवा भी वहां के रसोईघर से आती हुई पकते मांस आदि की सुगंध से आकर्षित हो कबूतर की टोकरी में आ बैठा और प्रेम पूर्वक वार्तालाप करने लगा। कौवे की चिकनी चुपड़ी बातों में आकर कबूतर ने उसे आतिथ्य प्रदान किया, किंतु यह चेतावनी भी दी कि रसोईघर से उन्हें कुछ भी नहीं चुराना चाहिए।

रसोइयों ने जब दोनों पक्षियों को साथ-साथ देखा तो उन्होंने तत्काल कौवे के लिए भी एक टोकरी कबूतर की टोकरी के पास लटका दिया, यह सोचते हुए कि ऐसा करने से दोनों मित्रों को बातचीत करते रहने के और भी अच्छे अवसर मिलेंगे।

दूसरे दिन कबूतर प्रातः ही उड़ कर दूर निकल गया और कौवा अपने वास स्थान पर दुबका पड़ा रहा। उस दिन रसोइयों ने मछली पकाना आरंभ किया। पकती मछली की सुगंध से कौवे के मुख में पानी भर आया। वह टोकरी के बाहर सिर निकालता और मांस चुराने का मौका तलाशता रहा। 

एक बार उसने जब देखा कि रसोईघर के रसोइए थोड़ी देर के लिए धूम्रपान के लिए बाहर निकले, तब वह उड़ता हुआ नीचे आया और पकते मांस के एक बड़े से टुकड़े पर चोट मार दी, जिससे हांडी के ऊपर रखा कड़छल नीचे गिर गया। गिरे कड़छुल की आवाज सुन एक रसोईया दौड़ता हुआ नीचे आया और कौवे की चोरी पकड़ी गई। उसने तत्काल रसोई घर का द्वार बंद कर कौवे को धर दबोचा और बड़ी बेरहमी से उसके पंखों को उसने मिर्च मसालों में लपेट कर बाहर फेंक दिया। थोड़ी ही देर में कौवे के प्राण निकल गए।

शाम को कबूतर जब अपने निवास स्थान को लौटा, तो उसने कौवे के पंख और मृत शरीर को बाहर फेंका हुआ पाया। उसने तत्काल समझ लिया कि कौवा अपने लोभ का शिकार हो चुका था। कबूतर एक समझदार और दूरदर्शी पक्षी था। वह तत्काल उस स्थान को छोड़ दूसरे स्थान को प्रस्थान कर गया, क्योंकि हर कोई अपने साथियों की मूर्खता के दंड का भागी हो सकता है।

The Pigeon and The Crow

In ancient India many times people used to hang baskets filled with grains around the house for the movement of birds. The cooks of the king's treasurer had also done so. In one of those baskets, a pigeon encamped. He used to come back in the evening and stayed in the same basket overnight.

 One day, a crow also got attracted by the aroma of meat, etc., coming from the kitchen and sitting in the pigeon basket and started talking lovingly. The pigeon provided hospitality to the crow's smooth grin, but also warned that they should not steal anything from the kitchen.

 When the cooks saw the two birds together, they immediately hung a basket for the crows near the pigeon basket, thinking that doing so would give the two friends more good opportunities to interact.

 On the next day, the pigeon flew away in the morning and the crow was lying on its habitat. That day the cooks started cooking fish. The aroma of the ripe fish filled the crow's mouth with water. He heads out of the basket and looks for a chance to steal the meat.

 Once he saw the kitchen cooks go out for a while for a smoke, he came flying down and hit a large piece of cooked meat, causing the bitterness on the handi to fall down. Hearing the sound of the fallen bitch, a cook came down running and caught stealing the crows. He immediately closed the door of the kitchen and grabbed the crow and ruthlessly wrapped his wings in chili spices and threw them out. Within a short time the soul of the crow left.

 In the evening, when the pigeon returned to his place of residence, he found the crow's wings and dead body thrown out. He immediately understood that the crow had fallen prey to his greed. The pigeon was a sensible and visionary bird. He immediately left that place and departed to another place, because everyone could be punished for the folly of his comrades.
