पेड़ की गवाही

              रोशन जीवन के अंतिम पड़ाव में था इसलिए वह तीर्थयात्रा पर जाना चाहता था । उसने अपने जीवन भर की कमाई एक जगह एकत्रित कर रखी थी। जब उसके मन में तीर्थयात्रा पर जाने का ख्याल आया तो उसने उसमें से कुछ अशर्फियाँ निकाल ली और बाकी बची हुई एक हज़ार अशर्फियाँ एक थैली में भर ली और अपने मित्र दीनानाथ को देते हुए बोला, “ मित्र यह मेरे जीवन भर की कमाई हैं अब मैं तीर्थयात्रा पर जा रहा हूँ । अगर मैं एक साल के अंदर नहीं आ पाया तो तुम इन्हें किसी नेक काम में खर्च कर लेना ।” एक साल तक ये अशर्फियाँ तुम्हारे पास मेरी एक अमानत हैं । अगर मैं आ जाऊंगा तो मैं आकर वापस ले लूँगा । दीनानाथ ने कहा, “ आप चिंता ना करें मैं आपकी ये अमानत संभल कर रखूँगा।” आप बिना चिंता किए आराम से तीर्थयात्रा पर चले जाइए । दीनानाथ की बात पर यकिन कर रोशन चला गया। इतना सारा धन देखकर दीनानाथ का मन बदल गया और उसने उन सारी अशर्फियों को हज़म करने की ठान ली। एक वर्ष बाद जब रोशन तीर्थयात्रा से वापस आ गया और दीनानाथ के पास अपना धन लेने गया तो दीनानाथ ने धन देना तो दूर रोशन को पहचानने से भी इंकार कर दिया और उसे बेइज़्ज़त कर के घर से भगा दिया । बेचारा गरीब रोशन अपने दोस्त की इस हरकत पर यकीन ही नहीं कर पा रहा था लेकिन रोशन ने  भी हार नहीं मानी और अपना धन दीनानाथ से लेने के लिए उसने बादशाह अकबर के दरबार में न्याय के लिए गुहार लगाई।

अब दीनानाथ को भी दरबार में बुलाया गया लेकिन दीनानाथ अभी भी रोशन को पहचानने से इनकार कर रहा था । रोशन के पास अपनी बात को साबित करने के लिए ना तो कोई गवाह था और ना ही कोई सबूत । सच्चाई का पता करने के लिए बादशाह ने ये मामला बीरबल को सौंप दिया। बीरबल ने दोनों से दोबारा पूछताछ की लेकिन दीनानाथ अपनी बात पर अटल रहा । बीरबल ने रोशन से पूछा तुमने किस के सामने अपना धन दीनानाथ को दिया था । हुजुर बस एक आम के पेड़ के नीचे मैंने धन दिया था और कोई गवाह नहीं था । इसका मतलब तुम्हारा गवाह आम का पेड़ है। जाओ तो उस आम के पेड़ से कहो कि वो तुम्हारे पक्ष में गवाही दे । अगर वो ना माने तो उसकी मिन्नतें करना लेकिन पेड़ को गवाही के लिए लेकर आना । तभी तुम्हारा धन तुम्हें वापस मिल सकता हैं । बेचारा रोशन बड़बड़ाता हुआ चला गया । पेड़ भी भला गवाही दे सकता है। दीनानाथ और बीरबल महल में ही रोशन का इंतज़ार करने लगे । जब कुछ समय गुज़र गया तो बीरबल बोला, “ अब तक तो रोशन आम के पेड़ के पास पहुँच गया होगा और उससे मिन्नतें कर रहा होगा।” तभी दीनानाथ बोला, “ रोशन तो वृद्ध आदमी है वो इतनी जल्दी वहाँ नहीं पहुँच सकता अभी तो उसे काफी समय लग जाएगा क्योंकि वहाँ का रास्ता भी साफ नही हैं।” बीरबल शांत होकर रोशन का इंतज़ार करने लगे।

बहुत देर बाद रोशन महल में आया और बोला, “ महाराज मैंने पेड़ से बहुत मिन्नतें की लेकिन वो वहीं का वहीं खड़ा रहा। अब आप ही बता दीजिए मैं क्या करूँ ?” बीरबल ने रोशन को अश्वासन देते हुए कहा , “तुम चिंता मत करो पेड़ तुम्हारे पक्ष में गवाही देकर चला गया है। दीनानाथ ने आश्चर्यचकित होकर पूछा, “ पेड़ कब आया? मैं तो कब से यहीं बैठा हुआ हूँ।” बीरबल बोले, “दीनानाथ जब मैंने तुमसे पूछा था कि रोशन उस पेड़ के पास पहुँच गया होगा तो तुमने तुरंत इनकार कर दिया। इसका मतलब कि तुम उस जगह के बारे में अच्छी तरह जानते थे लेकिन तुम झूठ बोल रहे थे। अब तुम सीधे सीधे अशर्फियों के बारे में बताते हो या मैं अपने तरीके से पूँछु। बेचारे दीनानाथ ने डर के मारे सब कुबूल कर लिया। उसने रोशन से माफ़ी मांगकर उसका सारा धन वापस कर दिया।

Witness Of Mango Tree

               Roshan was in his last stop of life so he wanted to go on a pilgrimage.  He had collected his entire lifetime income in one place.  When he thought of going on a pilgrimage, he took some of the ashfaris out of it and filled the remaining one thousand asharfis in a bag and gave it to his friend Dinanath and said, "Friends, this is the earnings of my life.  Going on pilgrimage  If I am not able to come within a year then you should spend them in some noble cause. ”  For a year, you have been one of my possessions.  If I come, I will come and take it back.  Dinanath said, "Don't worry, I will take care of you."  You go on a pilgrimage comfortably without worrying.  Roshan walked away believing Dinanath.  Seeing so much money, Dinanath changed his mind and decided to digest all those Ashrafis.  A year later, when Roshan returned from the pilgrimage and went to take his money to Dinanath, Dinanath refused to recognize the money, and even insulted Roshan away and drove him away from the house.  Poor poor Roshan could not believe his friend's actions but Roshan too did not give up and pleaded for justice in the court of Emperor Akbar to take his money from Dinanath.

 Now Dinanath was also summoned to the court, but Dinanath still refused to recognize Roshan.  Roshan had neither a witness nor any evidence to prove his point.  To find out the truth, the king handed over the case to Birbal.  Birbal interrogated both of them but Dinanath stood firm on his point.  Birbal asked Roshan to whom did you give your money to Dinanath.  I had given money under a mango tree and there was no witness.  This means your witness is a mango tree.  Go, tell the mango tree that it should testify in your favor.  If he does not agree, then pray for him but bring the tree for testimony.  Only then you can get your money back.  Poor Roshan went on mumbling.  The tree can also bear witness.  Dinanath and Birbal started waiting for the light in the palace itself.

  When some time passed, Birbal said, "By this time, Roshan must have reached the mango tree and begged for it."  Then Dinanath said, "Roshan is an old man, he cannot reach there so soon, it will take him a long time because the way there is not clear."  Birbal calmed down and started waiting for Roshan.

 After a long time Roshan came to the palace and said, "Maharaj, I pleaded with the tree but he stood there.  Now you tell me what should I do? "  Birbal gave Roshan an assurance and said, "Don't you worry, the tree has gone by testifying in your favor.  Dinanath wondered, "When did the tree come?"  I have been sitting here since long. ”  Birbal said, "Dinanath, when I asked you that Roshan must have reached that tree, you immediately refused.  It means that you were well aware of that place but you were lying.  Now you tell me directly about Ashurfis or I ask in my own way.  Poor Dinanath accepted everything in fear.  He apologized to Roshan and returned all his money.
